So Im always keeping an eye out for good owner op companies, I really miss hauling equipment out to dealers, but I really dont miss the company I worked for. I'd really like to find a reasonable company that I can sign onto, who run farm equipment only.
It doesnt have to be $5 a mile freight that everyone is always dreaming about, just something that I can make a decent living off of. Im not really happy with company pay in flatbed, which is rather abusive. I love the work, I never complained once about being outside for hours in -10, or running the whole winter in the Rockies, or tarping in 30mph winds. Although that does get interesting. I never complained about crawling under equipment on my back to place some T-hooks or anything like that. I just didnt like crazy company policies and reckless safety procedures.
Really, I want to be able to do things the safe way, and get paid a reasonable amount. Im not looking to make an absolute killing, just to get into something I enjoy, and have a bit of control over the general region I am working in.

Opps, He's an O/O. They only have company hands...

This type of attitude is why rates for hauling $300K+ loads of machinery stay artificially low. I only want to haul farm equipment...I won't tarp...I don't want to haul that...
Cluck Cluck, passingthru69, TwinStickPeterbilt and 1 other person Thank this. -
Me, I'll haul what ever I can get on my trl. as long as the money is right..
I got coveralls to try and not ruin my regular clothes. I got tarps. No coil racks, but if need can get some.
I try to be versable, not limit to just one type of item281ric Thanks this. -
Next theyll be be annoyed they have to open the doors before they back up to a dock :/ -
I use use the coil racks for the big oversized tanks and boilers. I picked up a preloaded stretch trailer out of Laredo that went the Baltimore airport, no chocks. The thing swayed all over. 2nd problem was that whoever stretched the trailers, stretched the lines out too instead of plugging them into the side connects. The lines dragged and I hit the brakes, and the pedal went to the floor. I stopped, and the parking brakes locked. Every time I have ever picked up a preloaded stretch, this has happened. The time before this, I lost my parking brakes as I was pulling into that Petro in McCalla,Alabama. I absolutely hate picking up preloaded trailers. I am 0-3 on preloaded stretch rgns.
