I have a question here,
What is a reasonable amount of time to wait before requesting detention,
Scenario,
Pickup appointment time is fcfs between 7-11am, get there at 8am, into a dock by 12pm getting loaded, gets loaded by 14, so essentially you are there 6 hours,
it was fcfs, would you start detention time after the 11am window
Just curious as to what constitutes reasonableness in these types of situations,
Reasonable Detention

When i have a scheduled pickup between say 7-11. The clock starts when i get there. I got to a Customer at 8, was in a door by 930, was loaded by 1315 Claimed 3 hours with the first two being free. Total being 5.
But as an o/o, some guys start the clock after the first hour, some have it In their contract that after 30 minutes if their not loaded then every 30 minute increment is like $10-20.

The first hour is on me .After that its $60.00 hr .Its understood with the folks i deal with.Like now I've been here for 3 hrs waiting to to get loaded .All it is is Cooler walls for walk in coolers .Hurry up and wait for nothing .I was rushed down here .They called me told me to be here at such time i was here .Now is wait time.Good paying load .But have to wait ,Is the only reason i took it on .

2 hrs before detention starts is fair enough. At some places you'll wait 15 minutes, at others 5,6,7,8, etc hours.

Our contracts dictate detention time for us.
On wind energy, the clock is ticking at 7am, even though they dont get there until 8am. Then we give them 6hrs, then $150 an hour. But also consider that the blades probably pay just a tad more than normal freight, and waiting is just part of our job at times. Other sites are 2hrs after an appointment time, others are 4, and so on. Each contract is different.
