I had put a replacement chunk in my 379 dump truck, with Eaton rears. The chunk was said to have a new seal, which I definitely questioned when I seen it dripping, as we added oil to the rear end. Drained oil, popped seal out and seal was tore around the edge but did look like a new seal. So I go get another seal(another trip to town and aggravated), apply a dap of oil to the edge, feel for and imperfections in the housing(lip, burr, foreign material) and nothing. Start to gently and uniformly drive it in and it’s not liking it. Long story short, I ended up tearing the edge myself on seal #2(more aggravated). Here’s some pics of their and my destruction. Is perhaps this the wrong seal? Is the something I can do to the housing plate? The plate is the bolt on plate that has the shims behind it. IMG_5221.jpeg image.jpg
Top seal is an Eaton 127591 and bottom was crossed to a SKF 29528.

They can be a bitxx. Did you coat it with grease? Looks pretty dry.

You gota lube the rubber part of that seal with oil or lithium grease when your installing it If it’s the OD of that seal that’s leaking you have to make sure when you start driving that seal it is straight if it’s not it could warp or tear
Something makes me think there might be a issue with that plate the seal drives into I would Emory paper the flange when the seal ride really good try it one one time and if you have trouble consider a new platr

Those are rotary shaft seals, the important surface is the ID, the OD is a rubber coating the primary purpose is not to seal but to compress the ID better. You can use a sealant on that surface but not on the ID surface.

I think the best thing to do is see if there is a gasket on the flange housing, I don't know the model of the axle, so I can't look it up. Eaton made/makes a lot of them but I think there is a gasket missing.

I lubed it with the same new oil as in the rear. I tried it several times. Either the housing is slightly too small or the seals are a tad to big O.D. .

I used the rear end oil to lube the outer edge.

It looks dry cause I wiped all the lube off, so you can see my destruction.

You might have to mic the housing and the OD of the seal to see if things are right

Would it be applicable to use a dremel tool and slightly remove a tiny bit of the corner edge, of the housing? Along with plenty lube of course. I’ve never had to in the past but could red or blue silicone be used?

I would be concerned about how aggressive the dremel might be is all
