On my T2000 KW, my hood its really hard to open or close the hood, and I was thinking about taking it off the hinges and looking whats wrong. Did anyone had this problem? I am not sure about what is inside cylinder bar on which the hood hinges are being held. Is there a spring? if so, how would I go about replacing it.
    Thanks

It possibly has nothing to do with the hinges. Park on level concrete if possible. Set the parking brakes. Shut off the engine. Chock the wheels. Get a flashlight and a DOT approved creeper. Roll under the truck and look up to see if the guides look to be centered where the hood drops down onto them. When the guides are properly adjusted the hood will open and close with ease. Be sure you check to see that the hood is perfectly even with the cab in all directions. The brackets on the cab must be adjusted up or down as needed to keep the hood level or it will bind coming up off the guides or down onto them. You may need to do this 3 or 4 times to get the hood where it will open and close with ease.

Yeah we have two T2000's that suffer from that problem. I can't remember what the problem is (I don't drive them) but I'll do some looking

Make sure your pins on the hood are greased good. Whenever my old truck had issues with the hood opening or shutting, it usually cleared up when I greased those pins. But I do know, if the truck was on unlevel ground, it did sometimes not shut without a bit of force.

I used to grease those pins but I got tired of getting so much grease on myself and I quit it. I have no trouble opening the hood since a realigned the pins and guides. If properly aligned you do not need grease.

This has nothing to do with your T2000 but back when they made the Marmon. It was common knowledge that, if you were not man enough to open the hood, you were not man enough to own a Marmon.

My dad's 07 T800 is 9 years old, you still have to push up on the fender to get it started. The hood mount bushings on it are a round bushing that's pointed that go into a cylindrical cup. Things must just stay tighter than hell forever.

It really is worth the effort to adjust, adjust, and readjust those pins and cups. It is also critical that both sides drop to the bottom of the pins at the same time. If the hood is lower one side it will bind just enough to keep it from working easily.

That's funny about the Marmon. Really with a Kenworth it should not be much effort at all to raise the hood though.
