This guy seems to have a chip on his shoulder. I'd hate to be his trainer. Even if you don't have a cdl. They want 10 years of your work history. I started at 21 and I listed my work history and then put High school. But if you have a problem with wondering why companies don't like hiring people with sketchy work histories. For one we carry expensive stuff and some time the product and the driver are never found. Well the trailer might be found but it's empty. This industry also has a high turnover rate. So some companies probably wouldn't waste there time on job hoppers. Who will probably leave there truck in the middle of nowhere because you are upset at the company. The rule is a government thing anyway. So if you have a sketchy work history and will have problems with filling out 10 years of employment, and or affidavit. Then maybe you should choose another career. Especially if you want a company to pay for your schooling. Even if you pay for your own schooling companies will be hesitant without a steady work history.

    1) Do you HONESTLY believe that an immigrant "fresh off the boat" just "walks in and gets handed a job"?

    2) If you flip burgers for 3 years, that itself has nothing to do with truck driving. However, if you were to do it for 3 years, or any other type of work for 3 years, it shows that you are both able to and willing to hold down a VERIFIABLE job to fulfill the basic entry level prerequisite to become a student truck driver.

    3) Equally as important, applicants and trucking companies alike have to comply with federal regulations to keep from being fined, shut down, or possibly being sent to prison.

    Good luck to you!

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

No chip on my shoulder, I just want to drive without proving I can flip a burger for 3 consecutive years. I've done that in the past, I do have a work history, it's not the most solid (what you would expect from a teenager), I simply have a 3-4 year gap where I couldn't find employment and I wanted to move away from the food service industry.

I understand where you're coming from, but there are going to be risks in hiring any new employee in any industry especially one with a high turnover rate. Just because someone has proven they can clean a toilet for 3 years doesn't mean they're not going to make off with a rig or leave it in the middle of no where, it doesn't even lower the chance. Anyone that doesn't like what they're doing is going to quit.

I don't know much about the industry, but all I see are immigrants driving these trucks. Are they given the same background checks into everything they've done in their previous country or just what they've done since being in America? Do they need to list everything they did in Pakistan, or just what they've done thus far in America? From what I've seen and read, they're basically given a clean slate as soon as they enter the country.

As I said above, just because someone can prove they can clean a toilet for 3 years, doesn't mean they're going to stick with truck driving. It makes absolutely no sense. Anyone who hates their job is going to quit eventually and who's to say the toilet cleaning guy doesn't leave the tuck in the middle of nowhere?

No arguments here, but it's basically comparing someone that hasn't worked in a few years to a felon. In fact, I'd think the felon that cleaned toilets would have an easier time landing a job than the guy that's been out of work a few years. That's really my main issue with this. It's like it's a crime to be out of work for a long period of time.

I've been really thinking about this the past week, and I think my best option here is to just put in as many apps as I can and call recruiters until someone gives me a chance. Then I can stick it out for a year and choose who I want to work for. I'd love to work for Prime, and I will try, but I don't think they're going to take me. Someone has to hire me eventually... right?

Update: So I called Prime recruiting and was told that if I was unemployed for the past few years, they wouldn't even look at me. So Prime is basically out the window at this point because I haven't been employed in a few years. Doesn't matter who I am or what I did, I've been unemployed (screw the economy), and I'm a no go.

This is simply amazing. I have to go flip a burger with high school kids for 6 months before I can apply for a trucking job. 30 years ago this would have been insane.

Edit: seriously, anyone here who can give me the number to a company that will hire a driver that's willing to work otr long term without complaints, please let me know. I just want to earn my cdl and start working.

Continuing to call companies and ...it would probably literally be easier to get a job with a felony having worked for the past 6 months than to get a job being out of work. It is seriously that screwed up. I feel like I have a felony trying to get someone to even talk to me right now.

It's not just trucking, it's all places hiring. Most places have more applicants than jobs, so they're going to be choosy. Why choose you instead of the guy that's worked the last 3 years? Seriously, how do they know what a special snowflake you are by looking at your application/resume. Everything is about paper now, you've got to make sure you look good on it.

The obvious answer here, whether it be trucking related or not, is to GET A JOB. Step 2, GET A BETTER JOB. Whether that's trucking, idk. But you need to start putting apps in everywhere and settling on one of the first guys to call you back. It's pretty iffy with your background, but you could try getting a job as a dock worker for a trucking company, many of those companies will help you get your CDL or at least consider you after you get one for a driving job.

Lastly, look at yourself. Your a 20 something with an (dropped, I know...) assault charge who doesn't like to work a normal job. It just gives me the image that you're some kind of slacker or punk. Make sure you look and sound professional when you look for a job. And before you argue with me that you're a well bread upstanding citizen, part of my point here is that the way I described how I guess you would look is exactly how a potential employer will see you when they look at your resume. That's why your work history is important.

Also, did you try CR England? They hire almost anyone.
