Looking at buying a 2970 for cb use. Seen the comments about going out of business..... problems with the N2 blah blah etc.

This something I should stay away from ?

Will the 2970 take heavy abuse like dirt and bumps?

I've got a RCI 2970DX with CB freq's unlocked, an echo/reverb board, talkback board, and it is stock 150 watts barefoot. Takes a lot of juice though: it'll blow a 15a fuse at 1/4 power when you key it up.

Great radio though. Had "Rob" at Salt Lake City CB (Same parking lot as the truck wash) do the work.

I think a 15 amp fuse is to small. Try a 20 or 25 amp.

The latest version with mosfet amplifier pulls over 30 amps at 50 watts carrier. Mosfets are the most inefficient RF devices ever devised. Shoved down our throats by the lead phobia of the EU. I have not heard that they were going out of business but I really have not been paying attention lately. If so it sucks because I just took the time to completely reverse engineer the little circuit board used to convert the DX models.

It seems like this rumor pops up at least once a year.Ranger is a stable company that manufactures more than CB/export radios.

I did not think so. Good maybe I'll make a few of the conversion boards. 3 bucks in parts for a board everyone sold for 35 wholesale and 50 retail. There were some distributors which removed the little plug in board from the box and then sold them separately. What a rip.

As example: http://www.worldwidedx.com/general-...46-opinion-copper-coms-expand-align-tune.html posts 7 and 9. The board comes from the factory with the radio. To remove it and charge 50 extra sucks if you ask me. They call it an E-Chip, nothing could be more incorrect. You can see a couple pics of it on this page: http://www.radiomods.co.nz/ranger2950mods.html

Sorry not going to give out the schematic. If you are very good and own at least a crappy O-scope you can build your own based upon one of a thousand various and sundry IC's out there.
