I'm a newby to this forum, but have been a CB fan since the 70's. I just got a new Cobra 29 Classic, and would like to see how it transmits. (And if it's getting out).
I am wondering how I should ask for a radio check. And do you truckers know who is driving a 4 wheeler by the way they talk on the CB? I tuned the cb a short distance from I-94 and after I was done, I called for a radio check. Did't get any response, so thats why I asked.
Great to be a part of the forum. I have already had some good reading about what kind of antennas are better than others. I didn't know there was so much to learn.
    Thanks for any responses:

well if your out late at night your more likely to get a response than during all the day chatter.... how to ask "Hello!! Can get a radio check please, just got a new radio and wanna see how it sounds Hello Check, 1 2 Can i get a radio check please?"
tell what someone drives by the way they talk... probably not.....

Good luck, and we are all glad to help here. any questions about antennas and everyone will help, too bad you wont get the same answer about what antennas best from anyone, everyones got their preference... (like mine Wilson silverload)

Personally I don't ask for a "radio check" if needed I ask if I can get a "modulation verification" (get a little creative).. To many people ask for a radio check for the dumbest reasons.. like to get directions, or ask where is a decent restaurant and I even listen to a guy who just wanted people to talk to, that was his way in getting people to talk to him by asking for a radio check, over and over i had to listen to this for 200+ miles..

And most important, make sure you have the volume turned up and the squelch turned down :biggrin_25525:

When you key up ask if anybody else seen those tig o' bitties. More times than not you'll get a response, then you politely say thanks for the radio check.

Just remember your trying to ask people that have the best selective hearing there is for a radio check, gotta get their attention somehow:biggrin_25525:

You could always drive along naked and listen to see if you hear them talking about you when you pass. Then get on there and say "Stop peeking!!" LOL I'd imagine they'd respond. Being female, I usually don't have a problem hearing SOMETHING out of one putz or another along the way, so the radio gets checked when I respond with something even more crude and obnoxious than they say. :)

    Great Stuff................

I'll be heading to Madison, WI in a short while. I'll be looking for the "bitties"
Hope I can keep it on the road.
Too many to thank individually. So to all who have added something, thanks and keep it coming.
