here is a video showing radiator replacement without removing the hood on the Mack. iv seen discussion on here a few times about removing the hood or not removing the hood. i left it on because my shop is fairly small i could have pulled the truck outside lifted it off with the bobcat and pulled the truck back inside but it was snowing out when this was filmed and it just seemed like less hassle to leave it in place.

I agree if just swapping out a rad much faster to leave the hood on. On the other hand if engine work or other is being tended too, much faster to pull the hood, then cooling package all as one to git her right outta the way. Just depends on how deep you gotta go as to how much time can be saved.

i agree both have there valid points. if you were removing the cooling pack say for a cam job way better to just pull the hood off to start with and then remove the entire cooling pack as a unit. for just a radiator replacement its not too bad to work around the hood i think the inconvenience of having it there probably only slows you down by about the same amount of time it takes to remove it and re install it so a horse a piece.

i hope i am happy with it. been running it about a month now no issues so far. every time iv tried a aftermarket ac consider air to air or radiator. it has failed within a year, i then would purchase a factory replacement that would work flawlessly and have never been compensated for the failed unit. buying oe you at least know they will stand behind it esp if purchasing from your local dealer you do a lot of business with.

I haven't looked under the hood of a modern mack but just how darn bad can it be that you would even consider pulling the hood to change out the radiator?

I removed my hood-1 man makes things easier standing in front of it-plus- I had to replace the Lift pump on the Front cover- Made Life easier. Yeah in 1 day New Rad- CAC-Fuel Pump and Hood Cable........

If I was just doing the RAD- id just unbolt the frame and Wiggle it out

its not so much that its so bad to work with it on. but you could have it off and out of the way by unplugging the wire harness and removing 2 bolts more than you have to remove if your leaving it in place then your not working around the hood. im not sure one way is better than the other.

    SAR Thanks this.

not too bad just leave the bolts a little loose close the hood line it up and tighten the bolts down with the hood closed.
