Does anyone do theirs themselves? My truck is running hot, 200º-225º and the truck wasn't well maintained before I bought it so I'm sure it needs to be done. The shops in town want around 350.00 to do this. Money is tight and anything I do myself I will.

A flush probably won't drop your temp, just improve the chemical quality. If it is due for a flush and you want to do it your self remember to be environmentally responsible and dispose of the old antifreeze legally! Check to see if there is dirt packed in between the cooling fins of the rad core, air-to-air, and or the A/C condenser. If there is you will need to power-wash the dirt out. We see this quite commonly.

hose it out from the engine side to the front

Yes cleaning the outside is very important I start out with shop air to blow out dirt then finish off with low-pressure water. The inside of the radiator can be chemical cleaned with caterpillar 30 day flush! This cat flush does a nice job while you drive.Do not go any longer than 30 days with this flush. After flush then remove t-stats make sure there is no corrosion in the seats where the t-stats ride. Also check fan operation you could need more blades plus fan belt tension. Some times the water pump can slip on the shaft if its a cat! What engine and type of cab do you have?

Never heard of the Cat flush stuff, sounds like a good product, I will definitely tell the service department!

If you can look inside the radiator look for deposits they look white. This 30 day flush will shine the inside the stuff smells like rotten eggs. Also forgot do the easy things first check your dash gauge with a known good gauge.I use infrared gun to check the degree of temp split between the upper and lower radiator plus the t-stat for opening and closing.

u can also use tide or cascade soap to clean the cooling system.. only use the powder kind. do not use liquid it makes a big mess. cascade is very good if u have oil in the coolant. when u are flushing and cleaning the system, make sure engine gets hot enough to turn fan on. fill with water add a half a cup of cascade run engine till fan comes on 2 times and drain water repeat till water is clear. then run clean water through it again till u get all the soap out
FireTrucker Thanks this.
