For those of you new to trucking, wanting a good start to your trucking career, hoping to make some decent money and not have to go OTR or sign with a mega...look at Quikrete.

They own Pavestone and some other subsidaries.

seems to be a pretty good company. I just got on with them last month and like them so far.

They do hire students and train them, but if you dont get it after about 4 weeks they will cut you loose.

Mostly flatbed, but they have end dump, tankers and dry van. They also will cross train if you ask for it.

Mon-Fri. some saturday work...always optional though.

if you are on a local route...home every night. if you are regional...a few nights out and home the rest

    Starting pay is .40 cpm

1st load is $20 plus mileage
2nd load is $26 plus mileage
3rd load is $32 plus mileage
4th load is $40 plus mileage
5th load is $50 plus mileage
all runs after 5 loads are $50 each plus mileage.

taking a driver to pickup a truck is $15 stop pay.
getting fluids is $15 stop pay.
no pay for fueling up but you get the miles.
    no tarp pay.
$45 to throw chains in the winter (mountain regions).
    paper logs
    no forced dispatch

    health (kinda expensive)
dental/vision are cheap and good plans
10 paid holidays off per year (after your 90 day probationary period).
2 weeks vacation (if you start at the beginning of the year, otherwise a week but you get to use it IN your first year, then 2 weeks the following year).
90 days probation then a few cpm raise after your performance review. Annual review every year after.
    401K
    Direct Deposit after 6 mos.
    Company picnics and Xmas parties.

They seem to treat their employees really well, take care of them. Everyone at the one I work at seems very happy and plenty of work to go around.

You have to wear a hard hat, vest and safety glasses in certain areas at the plants and on some customet job sites. aside from that, no qualcomms, no messages, no rollover sensors, no hard brake sensors, no CBT's (computer based training modules), no fuel idle policies, no babysitters. trucks are governed at 65 mph. Trucks are Penske or Ryder long term Leases. all fairly new equipment. You can smoke in the truck if you like (they dont have a no smoking policy)

    Company provides you

    Hard hat
    vest
    safety glasses
    kynedyne straps
    bungees
    clipboard
    work gloves
    rain gear
    logbooks

Enjoy the day and a half of orientation videos...lol.

For experienced drivers, 1 week of training before they throw you to the wolves. teach you to strap and tarp and do your paperwork. easy stuff really.

I used to deliver to a Quick crete plant in Corona, Ca. (sand) for their mix. Bottom dump into a grizzly. The white powder residue was terrible, everywhere, but I think they're a decent company to drive for.

Hey I have an interview with Quikrete on Monday for a local position. I have a couple of questions. Whats the starting pay for local work? Do you need your doubles endorsement? I have my hazmat and tanker, but no doubles. Lastly, what do they do in the winter when work is slow?
