    Hey guys,

    Quick question about hauling beer.

Do you need an alcohol permit, if so, is it state specific,

Essentially, the load is picking up in MI, going through OH, and delivering in PA.

The broker says he hasn't heard of needing one for beer, but he has heard of it for Vodka etc,

Company doesn't have an alcohol permit, and thinks they need one for OH,

Figured I would ask here while I do some more research on this,

    Thanks,

Certain states require a annual permit and some require a trip permit. If I remember right PA needs a annual permit, Ohio you are fine, and I am not sure about MI. I do know for your future reference that NJ requires a trip permit listing the dates of travel, destination, and a few other specifics...I'm guessing they have had some issues before or someone is selling the info to jack the loads. LOL

Those permits are usually issued by the Sate's Liquor Control Board. PA is definately one and is required for beer and liquor.

Tell that to the Sam Adams brewery in Breinigsville, PA and the PA DOT officer that stopped me when I was almost out of the state.

They're making Sam Adams at the old Schaeffer Brewery now?

Do they still have acres of kegs stacked 2 stories high out there?

Schaeffer used to have their own fleet of R model Macks. I worked for a mobile power wash company as a teenager and they were one of our customers. We were allowed to move the tractors around. I liked that place.

My very first lease was to a company hauling beer, in 1979. Yes, permits are needed in many states.

I had one shipper require permits - every other time I've hauled beer, nobody asked :)

It's not the shipper that counts, it's the enforcement officials.
