Hello,
Searching to solve my lack of distance posted in a different thread...
Original Setup
ch01~ 2.4
ch20~ 2.7
ch40~ 2.7
Is it good that they are so close?
I ran a ground wire from the plate to a cab cross member. Not to the main chassis, could not find an easy way to do that.
No change on the meter.
I switched to an 18' wilson cable, and nothing noticeable as well.
ch01~ 2.5
ch20~ 2.6
ch40~ 2.6
I switched out the original setup for a wilson 2000 with the rubber mount. I had to assume that since no plastic washer was provided none was needed. Is that correct? Here is the setup:
I cleaned all the contact areas for a good ground, but still kept the extra ground wire. (what gauge ground wire is suggested?)
Anyway... with the mast all the way in:
ch01~ 3
ch20~ 3.1
ch40~ 3.3
I raised the mast about 1.5 inches and saw no significant difference in meter readings.
Is it terrible to run at a 3 SWR? Should I try tuning to get it more even?
I won't be in the truck and on the road again tomorrow so the delay in getting real world results is killing me.... hehehehee
Thanks for any comments.

Your 2.5" rubber washer (or plastic) is currently below the mirror mount surface. It needs to be on top. Move it and re-check everything

The domed rubber part, the rubber washer and the metal washer.
Are you saying the rubber washer goes above the mount? That would just be putting a rubber washer between the mount and the rubber dome part...
Is that to help ground the outside of the cable?

IMO I'd change out that 5" shaft for at least a 10" then recheck.

I switched the grommet to the top, left the large metal washer on the bottom...
ch1 is now 2.7
20 and 40 are at about 3.1.
I will get the taller post and see if that helps.
Wilson also suggests grounding the radio chassis, mine is not.

I'd study on the antenna first. Definitely need to be longer either with whip or shaft length.

That's what she said!

If your swr is higher on 40 then on one you need to cut the whip down start by cutting 1/8 inch at a time if you have a high swr say like 3.0 on 40 and on one you have a ground problem
Pmracing Thanks this.
