I'm a new owner operator and looking to purchase a new set of tires for my trailer. It's a 2017 Wabash HD. As I am new to the game I wasn't aware that there is so many different kinds of tires for the trailer such as: steer tires, drive tires, all position tires, trailer tires, long haul tires, regional tires, and then tire load index or the load range and 14 ply vs 16 ply and so on. On steer tires and drive tires it is self explaned, but so confised on the trailer tires. Im trying to make a smart, intelligent decision, but im low on information and got nowhere to turn, so I figured who better to ask than fellow truck drivers that i would trust more than a pushy tire salesman. I am based in KY and I drive long distance 800 to 2400 mile one way trips so round trips can be 1600 to 4800 miles. What tires would you recomand I use? Trailer tires or all position tires and should I use regional tires or long haul tires or something else. Also what brand of tires? Please advice, any help and info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

As a long term company driver, the tires that have held up the best in my experience are Bridgestone, Michelin, and Goodyear as steers, drives, and trailer tires.Sons Hero and Yosemite_Sam Thank this. -
Just get trailer tires..keep it simple.
I run Bridgestone R123’s lo pro on my Great Dane.
They were pricey last time I replaced one but maybe you can find a better deal than I. I paid $650 for one at a TA.
So far I got 300,000 on them and looks like another 150,000+ miles left on the tread. I run mostly heavy loads and am pleased with their performance.
pic is one of them with 300k miles already.
Sadly buying a full set will cost. For me it’s about 10%of the cost of a new trailer for me. My attitude is once they all need to be replaced it’s time to trade it in.. Tires, brakes and every nickel and dime stuff is just throwing money away..imo.

Start by shopping/looking for trailer tires. Usually they’re known for all around position tires. Yokohama, Toyo are just a fraction in the market but somewhat reasonable, your Michilen, Bridgestone, and Goodyear are more high priced but well worth it. And you have your Thailand Korean made tires, usually knockoff’s so to speak which cost a fraction. But beware, usually you’ll get what you pay for. Trailer tires have a high rate of wearing out funny. Keep an eye on them and get them rotated if you see and unusual wear starting.

Meanwhile I’m spending money on two new windshields that I really didn’t need. Just sandblasted and a couple small chips.
Dude was parked in front of my truck today so I put him to work..that’ll teach him -
