I drove a 26' Box truck for almost 10 years. That was in the 1980's early 90's and drove a limousine in Chicago for 3 years. All before the year 2000. I had a CDL, but since this was more than 3 or even 10 years ago, I have not put it on my application anywhere. Should I? Am I expected to?

People who have past felonies on their record should not be nearly as picky until they have 3-4 years of OTR to show other companies that they are indeed worth a shot at a job.
As far as being able to travel to canada I look forward to saving the money needed to apply for that so I can go apply at one of them companies that attempts to weed out ex felons by saying " must be able to travel to canada" as many truckers won't even bother to spend the money for the permit lol... I already look forward to being told I can't get my hazmat and TWIC card by some of the companies I have on a list to call..
Its funny though because even though there are some out there that do stupid crap to ruin it for people who are trying to make an honest living, some recruiters just get plain silly at their excuses.
At least the lady I talked to at May was blunt and to the point.
She said they are only considering people with 1 or less felonies not involving drugs, sex or violence. She told me maybe if the market gets harder up for truckers they might give me a chance. Well I'm not waiting around for that, especialy when a CNN story said the industry is hiring some 200k new drivers. I'm going to be one of them here in about a month or less
My radio handle will be something goofey to ring in a new age NEWBIE!! -

you cant even go into canada as a tourist with a felony I am told and the canadians with felonies cant cross the border either. -
I got a breaking and entering felony and possession of stolen goods fenoly at the same time. I also have a misdemeanor for shoplifting around the same time. I was 16 years old and in North Carolina they charge you as an adult. It will be ten years since the charges this November. I just graduated from the North Carolina Truck Driver Training School this june, and am having trouble finding a company to hire me. Anybody have any advice of where to go? I am looking for something dedicated or regional.
-
Being in your position, and then being fussy about the job ???????
Get some experience, then dedicated or regional WILL be easier to obtain......... -
I agree
He should throw in his lot with Carolina Cargo for a couple of years.
Those that are have proven to be reliable drivers have been looked out for there.
I always was. Too many drivers have left Carolina Cargo and for some weird reason they came back after trying out those other companies with the big pay per mile and the low weekly milage. -
Thanks, at this time I'll go for just about any company for the OTRE even cr england if need be however I still refuse to work for funtastic for any reason.
They pay their drivers 10 cents a mile teams + while teaming they got to haul at least 2 carnys along while cordinating with the trucks hauling the sleeping trailers around. Oh and their driving cab overs while doing this.
With each fair / event stop the truckers have to help set up the rides for 8.40 an hour. -
Really thats new because I was there back in 2000 with a bunch of friends. Nobody said anything about it then.
Oh well theres more kool stuff here than there anyways lol. You know I've been to Vietnam,Japan , hounduras, mexcio and plan to visit sweeden sometime in the future when I can afford it. Never once had a problem
