I posted this down in the Hotshot forum in a topic on insurance but I figured I'd ask here for more visibility. When searching for information on insurance rates I came across the expediters online link that shows the average price of insurance for a new 1st year MC in every state.

I'm curious if anyone knows why Mississippi is so much cheaper than every other state? All the other states are kinda clumped together in different range groups that are similar, but then you have MS which is drastically lower than all the others.

Mississippi has it's tax problem but #### my rate would be insanely low there judging by this list and what I've been quoted in 2 different states so far.

Any idea why MS is so much cheaper?

    Dang, Georgia!

Yea, did u apply for authority yet?

Is that the best way to get quotes is after they give you your mc and Dot # then find?

Anyone in GA here? What are you paying?

Not yet, when I started looking at rates on insurance I realized I could save money if I set up in MO where my LLC is at, but then I found out I can't pull my DOT number from there unless I was a resident. I was hoping just to get a cheap office..

So in researching that I saw this information with all the other rates for different states and saw how cheap MS is so figured I'd check what the story is with that before moving forward.

Otherwise I think I'm simply going to transfer my LLC to FL and just do the $12k rate I got here in FL.

I been kinda dragging my feet on deciding if I wanted to try and set up in MO or just transfer the LLC here to FL to be honest.. I'm not not 100% sure which I want to do but honestly transferring here to FL is likely the easiest.

The biggest reason though is I put my truck that I plan to use on the road to start testing it out. (just put new heads on it and did a bunch of work to it). I took it for sort of a trial run with a borrowed flat deck and had a breakdown which has been a bit of a problem to sort out.. (had to get the truck & trailer home) then had to sort out a issue with the engine wiring harness.. Guess when I had it all apart something in the harness got kinked or something and I keep losing throttle. Had to order a new engine harness so I ordered new fuel injector harness as well to get everything new..

On the plus side when I was dealing with the truck I came across a local auto auction I didn't know about so that's at least 4 big auctions with-in 50 miles of my house so I might look more at car hauling locally at least for a few months to age the MC# past 90 days so brokers don't give me as much hassle.. (it's actually more than 4 as there is a lot of smaller ones but it's at least 4 very large ones (central Fl basically)

I'm not sure but I would think someone could make a virtual business address for their business because yes the insurance is just super pricey. Maybe someone who knows will chime in.

I doubt that insurance quote includes hauling cars. That cargo insurance is very pricey.

Dude, that's the first time I ever heard that, I bought a business out of mo with an authorand never heard that.

So back to the llc thing, just get an off the shelf corp and use the address from the firm that sells it to you, problem solved.

    crocky Thanks this.

Are you talking about my rate or the rate list posted? My rate of $12k does include cars and its a very cheap rate for a new mc# in FL. Other states it would of course be cheaper but FL sucks like that.

The blog post is just new MC# with the listed base line from the blog. No not car carrier specfic just "average rates" for a new MC#

*These rates were based on a 40 year old driver with clean MVR and median insurance credit score, an 8 year old $40K tractor and $22K trailer with $1 Million Primary Liability and $1,000 deductibles for Comp and Collision.

I was gonna pay OOIDA the $600 to do my authority and they are the ones that told me I'd need proof of residence for the DOT#.

I'd prefer to set up in MO for the cheaper rates but if I have to rent a place I lose anything I saved. I've been calling around today to try to sort out what I need to do to transfer my llc to FL and just getting run arounds...

You were able to transfer the state DOT numbers to you with out being a resident In MO?

Yea previously they quoted me $19k and change but I had a very minor backing accident under $500 from a love tap when I 1st got my CDL but it put 3 points on my licence. After the 3 points dropped off my rate dropped to the $12k which is the quote I got last week. In MO it's $8.5k for the same insurance and my LLC is already in MO which is why I'm trying to set up there..

@Ridgeline I just called MO DOT and they are saying as long as I'm already registered to do business in MO (aka my LLC) that they don't care if I live there or not..

I guess I just save my $600 and file for my self. I think I will still need to go rent a cheap office though, just to get an address because I don't think they'd let me use a PO box
