That's crazy 32k for a rebuilt DD16 the new detroits are garbage plain and simple. If I was in your shoes I would find a good used 12.7 Series 60 and get a hold of Kustom Truck. I heard they supply all of the harnessing and electrical to convert from the DD15-16's to the old Series 60 gems in the Cascadias. Sounds like it would be a lot cheaper option than rebuilding the DD and get you a whole lot better engine at the end of the day.

with these new dd engine the parts are super expensive just the overhaul kit alone you are looking at about 9000 and that is if you can even find one anywhere, last one i had to do they had one in dallas and that was all got lucky consider also about 4000 to 4500 for a head and you are #### near 13 to 15K in parts alone. that being said overhaul kit comes with everything including egr cooler and egr door and also rods unlike any other kits i have seen so far but it is still super expensive. i dont know why but from what i know a lot of shops around do not do them at all usually dealer only, beats me why an engine is an engine at the end of the day still put together with nuts and bolts.

you can change what you want personally i do not like to take a chance and do 15 to 20k worth or work and leave the head the same there is more than one way to do it. there is a lot of cheaper ways that is up to the person but if a customer comes here and tells me to save pistons and just change rings personally i will not do the job because i can not stand behind this kind of work and will not warranty it so therefore i will not do it.
