Hi guys, I wanna start off by saying I'm sorry if I've posted this in a wrong thread or something, I'm not very good with the Internet or these forums. Anyway so my question pertains to me getting my own authority as a car hauler. I have a bad background, I been shut down by almost 300 companies all across the U.S but I've been told to go the owner operator route by friends but would my background come in the way of getting loads from places such as central dispatch or ports or auctions I have progressive telling me they will give me insurance I have the money to get a 7 car setup just wanna know if it will stop me from getting work. Ok now on to the details of my background:
Felony 1: 14 years ago attempted robbery 3 months jail and 5 years probation
Felony 2: 4 yrs 7 months ago speeding/eluding arrest no jail time only probation
Felony 3: 3 years 3 months violation of probation
Dwi: (personal vehicle) 4 yrs 3 months resulted in me hitting a pole
I know it's a lot and I know a lot of people have told me to quit and I'm sure I'll hear it on here as well but it's not in my Dna can't do it so positive responses would help any kind of help in any direction would be greatly appreciated.
Question about getting authority with a bad background please help

Sorry that I can't give you advice but I'm more than willing to give you encouragement. As a law enforcement with 23 years experience I would give you a thumbs up for wanting to turn your life around and being forward with your life's learning although you chose the hardest lessons to learn. ALMOST everyone deserves a chance. There are some who don't (real sex offenders) but that doesn't seem to be the case with you. In your case you will have to prove your worth even though you've paid your debt. O/O route appears your best option, it's an automatic no if you don't try. I don't think felony conviction is a TWIC denial. I believe that background and others of the like if you are a current fugitive, terrorism ties, or the like. I believe you can make a good run out of this business and keep your focus on doing well. I had a former GF who's dad went to prison for bank robbery when he was young. He actually was a good guy and a great father regardless of his past stupidities.

I dont think that the fmcsa and dot do a background checks on new authority applicants assuming you will be incorperated. Central dispatch just verifies you mc# and insurance. Auctions dont do background checks. All you need at the auctions is a valid state id, vin#s and the dealer name you are picking up for. To get into a port you are gonna need a twic card and you must pass a background check. With the felonies that you have that might be a problem. You can always pay for an escort. Your friends are right, the o/o route is the way to go. Getting insurance is always the hardest part. No insurance,no dot authority. Good luck

Go the getting your own authority route. Your background won't effect you at all except for insurance.
Instead of posting you need to call the insurance company now and ask if you can get insurance and if so how much will it cost. Progressive may be your only choice and that will be a radius like 300 miles from your home base. Long island kind of sucks because part of your radius goes out to sea.
You won't be able to enter Canada. Not much there except bacon and @rank -
