If I want to go to a CDL school, what are the options for financing?
As best as I can tell, my options look like:
1) Go to an accredited school and get federal financial aid.
2) Foot the money upfront and hope for a job.
The CDL schools I've looked at don't seem to accept payment plans. Is this something I should expect from the industry, or have I looked at bad schools?

you can get a federal student loan, check the APR's as well.
maybe they don;t want a "pay as you go" type deal, cuz they been burnt by non-payee's?ACH Thanks this. -
Are you unemployed or underemployed? Do a search for your state, WIOA, there may be some Fed funds to pay for it. You can get a student loan, but I would not go that route. If I had to choose loan or company paid/contract, I would rather sign the contract, do the year, and then see where you want to work. It will take you much longer to pay off a loan, and there is always interest.
ACH Thanks this. -
Fill out a FAFSA application. Federal student loan. That's what I did years ago. Only cost me $180 out of pocket for a 3 month course. Well worth it.

Dude don't go to a bank and get a loan that's the most insanely garbage thought process.
Just fill out a FAFSA application even if they offer you a crazy loan amount which they will just take what you need for whatever school. Whatever trucking company you go with more than likely has a tuition reimbursement plan that will give u the cash back over a few months. You can also get the loan forgiven pretty easily so u don't have to pay it back.
Every state except maybe Alaska has their own free funding also through a college. These colleges actually teach you proper for the most part.
The best thing honestly you can do is join the Army or Marines (Marines if your fit) just go has a reservists and apply has a 88m in army or motor t ###### operator in Marines. Then go to a trucking school. Us military dudes get free everything including school and whatever job training.
If you drive trucks in the military you also get a CDL handed to you through most state transportation departments. Has a reservist u get to tell people your a bada.ss one weekend a month rest of time your on the road making paper. Best part you getting two paychecks one from uncle Sammy and another from your trucking company.Last edited: Aug 18, 2017
