Hello all. Newbie driver here. I have a 2016 freightliner cascadia. Earlier today I did a normal drop and hook. Wierd thing is that after I uncoupled the trailer and drove away, I heard a wierd noise comming from the back of the tractor. Almost sounded like a dragging noise. I get out and look and nothing appears to be wrong with the tractor/bob tail.
I asked another driver who happened to be there and he said that sometimes that "noise" happens and it has to do with the airbags -and that there's nothing to worry about.
Can someone please explain this to me? I'm a newbie so any little thing happens concerns me. Thanks in advance.

Did you pull your air lines off? Maybe they came off and made the noise after recoiling lol. It happens!.
And did,you have the bags aired out? Could be bump stop77fib77 and lots of character Thank this. -
Hi 762, when you pull away from the trailer, especially if it was a heavy load, it takes a while for the suspension air to "bleed off", so the sound you probably heard, was the air exhausting out the ride height valve, and I suppose it could sound like something dragging. To eliminate that, after you pull away from the pin, stop before pulling all the way out, and there should be a switch on the dash, that says "air suspension, run- dump" or "deflate" or something like that, put it in "dump" or "deflate", and it will release the air a lot faster. Just remember to re-inflate the suspension, once you pull away.

Thanks for the replies guys. I asked a few pro drivers are the truck stop and they all said the same thing you all said about releasing airbag air before pulling away from landed trailer.
How do I deflate air? I have cascadia 2016.

Depending on your tractor's build, you may not have the option.
I had a loaner cascadia that had this remote type control attached by a coiled cord positioned on the floor on the left side of the driver seat. I can only assume it was intended for the driver to be outside the truck and monitoring the air dump.
It took a while to figure out the routine. I had to press the button that looks like a music note then use the up/down arrows. I only ever used down because it would auto-inflate after the truck was in motion for a moment or two.

If you heard a puffing noise with the dragging, it was actually tires losing traction as the airbags are leveling. The airbags dont adjust right away, and so one of the axles can be slightly off the ground for a few seconds. The truck will lightly fire the airbrake on the spinning wheel in order to help stop it. Usually it wouldnt sound like a dragging noise, but on gravel it can be very noticeable.
It is very very common for a wheel to slip right after disconnecting, and the traction control will set off the airbrakes in little puffs to stop it.
