    Hi,

I had a customer recently use his CDL as an ID for a credit card. I noticed on the actual drivers photo that he had a 6 digit number running vertical up the left side of the photo. The number doesn't correspond with anything else within the license and I don't recall ever seeing that before on a CDL. I wrote it down as part of the ID but I'm not sure if I needed to or what it means. Anyone familiar with that?

This was a Nevada issued CDL.

Without knowing what your business is or why you're needing to write down info from someone's drivers license, I'd say if you don't know what it is, you probably don't need it. If your business required it, you'd know it. But, I'm skeptical of a need to write down any information from the drivers license. FWIW, my Texas license does not have any number across the picture.

Thanks for your answer. So in Texas there is no number on the photo? As for the business, nothing crazy. It's a credit application for a gas station card and that was the ID. We usually have the customer fill it out and then we verify the info but I wasn't sure what that number was for so I added it as a foot note.

No, there's no number on the photo. If I had to guess, it's probably similar to what Texas calls the audit or DD number. It's a number on the license that's different from the DL # that if you know how to decode it tells you information about when and where the license was issued.

No it was actually on the larger photo itself and ran vertically up the left side. I don't see it in that photo.

well i dunno, i checked, "provincial", "temporary", "undocumented resident", "probationary", "undocumented alien resident", i got nuffin else to offer.

i'd say flag that application as a fraud.

make the guy provide proof it is real.
