I need 2 new rear quarter fenders. Each one is bashed by the prior owner hitting a deer.....

I went to the bone yard and found a set in almost MINT condition still attached to what's left of a partial frame. They are held to the frame with a 13/16" nut/lockwasher.

I was finally able to break the nut loose, but it turns out its spinning endlessly. How are these things attached and is there a trick to get them off w/o torching and destroying them?

If I end up buying new ones, I will need mounting hardware and will just have the current ones torched off. But how can I get them off the frame in the bone yard??

    :biggrin_25521:

The fender looks like it 'slides' onto some shaft and the shaft is bolted to the frame, but thats all I can figure out at the moment...

The shaft you are talking about has a bolt that goes through it and uses the nut to hold it to the frame. You will need to torch the bolt and buy some new ones to re-attach it. Its a simple design but very flawed in the long run. I would just look into a decent set of half fenders or better made quarter fenders if your budget can afford it.

    Hanadarko Thanks this.

KW has a sale coming up July for these but...

So, my suspicion was correct. In this case, the bolt turns with the nut.
I presume there is NO way to hold the bolt and the nut at the same time?

The exposed threads on the inside frame rail arent even rusty. I mean this thing looks like it was fairly new, but still stubborn to get out.
The junkyard owner told me most need torching but stopped short of offering to do that for me, even if I paid extra.

Each of these cost like $185 new and he is selling the pair for $100.
Thats why I am trying to pursue this...

Pop the cap off the end of the tube, insert a socket with a very long extension to hold the bolt. It'll probably be the same size socket as the nut.

    rookietrucker and Hanadarko Thank this.

I knew it. I knew there must be something. Of course watch me NOT be able to get the end cap off :biggrin_2556:....

I am determined here. Big time. These things are MINT, but they have a rubber top flap that says PETE on it, which naturally will be IMMEDIATELY replaced with a KWHOPPER one.

And I was just thinking... my old truck had some with a thin tube clamped over a short thicker metal tube. If that's the style on there, unclamp the sheet metal tube that holds the fender, slide it off and there'll be a short metal stud sticking out with the bolt inside.

Yes. Thats the exact setup I am faced with!!

Initially, I undid the clamp (removed it totally) but the stainless steel fender assembly seems 'fused' to this metal stud mount shaft. It wont turn or slide or anything.... Since it's stainless I am a bit baffled by that.

I havent priced any lately, but if you have a place like truck pro/fleetpride or somewhere that sells truck parts, you use to be able to buy a set for around $125 new, but thats been a couple years ago, and they came with all new hardware. I think they were made by fleetline.

Yea, prices on these are all over the map.
I know I want full brace S/S units with the rubber top. But the KW sells the logo'd rubber tops for only a few bucks...

Most of them are $125/pr and up. I think KW was $183/pr before discounts. I dont need KW, but would want the KW rubber part at least.

Spray some PB Blaster on there to loosen it up. Or, if all else fails, remove the decorative cap off the end a use a long extension and socket.
