Hello Folks!
Im working on a 1996 Western Star, Model: 4964F. It has a CAT 3406b Motor and a Broken Pyrometer probe! i'm fairly new to these trucks and whenever i have to fix them the internet is my "go-to" learning resource, but i'm coming up with no solutions to this dilemma.
the Question is: How do I know which Pyrometer Probe to Buy? is there a model number or just any probe that matches the thread, diameter, etc, etc.
Would appreciate any advice you can give! ive posted pictures of the probe and other possibly useful information.
thanks y'all

If you call the Western Star/ Freightliner Stealership and give them the last six digits of the VIN#, they will be able to sell you the right part or give you the Part # if you want find it cheaper somewhere else. The part is about $60, give or take.

Awesome thanks Alot for your help!

If you can, bring the old one in to compare to the new one, match the threads and length of the probe.
I may or may have not had a problem like this beforesteven508 Thanks this. -
When you get the new stinger, it has to be compatable with your brand of pyrometer. (Looks like its an ISSPRO)

Egt thermocouples are pretty simple there are only two common types. That gage uses a "K" type. It can be used with any k type tc you just decide which probe style you need. Auberins.com has pretty much every probe type and mounting option known to man available.

How do you know it is broke?

Good luck getting it out! I had to replace my pipe and it just wouldn't come out, so I had to buy a new sensor too.

One thing you might check first. I have a '94 Star car. 4964EX. There is a fuse in the left kick panel which has three (3) of the glass fuses , doubt there is much difference in the cab itself. Once in awhile my pyro will go on the fritz. I have fixed it every time by squeezing the fuse holder ends and tightening up the grip on the fuse.

Isspro R650 is probably the thermo coupler you need.
