So today I was surprised to find a couple of drivers who put a quart of transmission fluid in each fuel tank whenever they fuel. They explained that this keeps the injectors running clean and lubricated and is a good idea if you fuel up with bio-diesel. Another guy also suggested 2-cycle engine oil. I'm curious if any other owner-ops do and/or recommend this.

I used to put a cup or so in my gas tank in my 4 wheeler to keep it running clean, smokes a bit but... In diesel I prefer sticking with Howe's...I'm guessing it won't hurt, maybe a quart per side every other tank???

The new Ultra Low Sulfur fuel is very dry, it lacks the lubricity that fuel used to have. I put in a quart of ATF in each fuel tank (150 gal). I like to think it helps lube the fuel pumps and cleans the nozzles out... Cat 3406C fully mechanical. They say ATF is abrasive, so it cleans well. I dont know what it would do in a newer engine but in an old mechanical and older unit injectors I think it is necessary to keep things lubed with something other than ULSD.

I had a mechanic fill a new fuel filter with atf. I didn't think it would start back up. But did. Small amount goes to motor rest gets sent back to tank

This idea has been used for years. I used to do it often in older mechanical engines. Never tried it in ECM motors, but been thinking about it.

Years ago everyone worth their salt knew about putting tranny fluid in your fuel. Today you have to be sure the fluid is not red in color. If you put red tranny fluid in your fuel, you can be accused of running off-road diesel on the highway.
Also, be sure you only put in half a quart if you fuel up, and are only half empty. I myself would put 1 quart in each tank (100 Gal each), every other time I fueled. Now I use Howes, which I have found to be a good product. Plus when running howes, I was getting almost a half mile more per gallon, which offset the cost of using the howes almost entirely.rocknroll81, TGUNKEL, flood and 3 others Thank this. -
I have also used atf, and I also use marvel mystery oil

Not sure you would want to use any type of oil in a truck with a DPF system. Clog up that filter it gets pricy ! Brother just had to replace his entire DPF , $7200 bucks.
