My husband drives a sanitation truck & just got a new to us Freightliner sanitation truck. It's a 2012, I believe, with a new way hopper. The PTO doesn't want to engage so the truck can be flushed. Any info would be great, the truck did not have any manuals of any kind, we are flying blind with this newer truck.

Is it a hydraulic pto ? It's a common problem for the teeth of the engagement gear to get chewed up and not stay engaged. Sometimes if it's not too far gone you can shove a aluminum can into it to take up some of the clearance and get a small amount of more work out of it. That's NOT a long term solution though. A qualified hydraulic shop should be able to get you fixed up pretty quickly. Hope this helps.

Is it grinding when you try to engage it or is there no evidence that it is try to engage?
