    Hello all,

I had a note on my driver door this morning to see an upper level manager. I got into my assigned truck and pulled to the from of the terminal, got out and went into the office. Once I saw this safety manager he claimed that he witnessed me getting into my truck and moving it without doing a PreTrip. I stated that I have never had a note on my truck to see this person before and that I did as stated, came to see him. He is claiming that since I moved the truck 100 yards that I had no intention of doing a pre-trip and that I was in the wrong, which carries a 3 day suspension.

My question is this.... as long as I do a pretrip before I leave the property am I doing my job correctly?

Is there any laws that state in writing one way or another?

it's a policy thing, so.. you have to abide by what the company decrees...

Personally, I do a PTI before I move the truck. No telling if somebody's been under the hood doing evil things - but so far I've been at terminals where it's a short walk to the offices. If I'd been in a larger terminal... hard to say.

The law says before the truck is driven so you don't have much to stand on. You can check §392.7. I have to side with your safety man. Sorry. Besides, if you do find something very serious (and you will someday) who's to say you didn't break it. If you do your inspection before you move the truck it will take all the responsibility away from you unless it was you that did the post trip inspection.

    psanderson Thanks this.

I would seriously start looking for another job! I don't mean that in a mean way, but this sounds like an excuse for your company to start weeding out drivers.(but I could be wrong) See what other members think about it!

You moved the truck 100 yards just to go inside?

Why did you not just walk inside from were the truck was parked?

That is why so many truck drivers are so fat now days they drive instead of walking a little.

I use to walk more than 100 yards all time it was nice and refreshing and made me feel better not sitting in the truck all the time.

    psanderson and Lurchgs Thank this.

Thanks. I felt like saying this but you beat me to it. You hit the nail on the head!

These are the ones than complain about unloading a trailer when they could be making extra money doing it instead of hiring a lumper.

I never unloaded my trailer because the company would pay the lumper more than the would pay me plus the company told me we pay you to drive not load and unload trucks.

except, of course, nursery loads. :) those are SUCH fun. Other than that, yeah, "You weren't hired to load/unload the trailer"
