I am beginning driving school on April 18th through a 4 week course at the local community college. It is a program that was started about a year ago. They have late model equipment, a maximum class size of 6, a 3:1 student to instructor ration when working with the trucks. By all accounts, it seems to be a quality program.
However, I do not see that they are PTDI certified. Is this important? Should I only be dealing with schools that are PTDI certified?
Thanks in advance for your responses.
PTDI Certification a necessity?

The PTDI would open more doors for you BUT you can get along with out it. Start checking with some of the compenys that your interested in NOW before you start so you'll know who will and who won't take you.

it is not necessary but preferred. you CAN get a good education at a smaller school for less money. the certification pretty much assures you that the school has met certain criteria for education.
take Harvard Law School, over say, a State university that teaches law....
you get the law education, but one school (Harvard) may be more attractive to potential employers, but this is not a guarantee of a job either.
if no jobs are available, then the best-est schools in the world will still be producing people that will be unemployed after graduation...!!!
it comes down to YOU....YOUR GRADES, YOUR ATTITUDE, YOUR ATTENDANCE, YOUR EVERYTHING....!!!! over all else..... -
The company that you first start driving for,
is much More important than the school !!!! -
The type of equipment you train on, and the relationship your school has with carriers that hire entry level drivers is more important than PTDI certification. All PTDI does is endorse the training guidelines created by the FMCSA in 1986. Member schools agree to follow those guidelines (an honor system, with no auditing). Membership is expensive, which is why relatively few schools participate. No bang for the buck.

I would want it if I went to school. It tells the employer that the school you went to follows the rules and is not a fly-by-night school. It doesn't guarantee a job but it's a good mark to have.
