I am currently a O/O .I have to pay 30% commission which is killing me slowly .I like to get my own authority but i have a dilema :

I can not get my own insurance without authority , on the other hand i can not apply for authority without insurance .

What is the proper steps for me to do to get own authority .I'm based in BC, Canada.

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

So you are getting 70% of the load now? Are you pulling a company trailer? If the answer is yes to these two questions then getting your own authority is not going to be the saving grace you think it is.

70 percent of gross isn't a bad rate, it's not great but not bad. however, if that's brokered freight, it's already been stepped on once(or more). also, if you are pulling a dry van, there just isn't enough money in dry freight to ever do well.

You'll need set up your own company 1st, then NSC#, MC#... Insurance is the last one, but you need it to active your MC#.
I remember someone in ON can set you up for $1500CAD(forgot the co's name). Anyway, % is not most important, cpm on truck is! Being on you own, you'll take a lots risk, and most likely you won't make more $.

You need to look for a new carrier if not your own authority as 70% with your own trailer is too low depending on what the carrier pays in way of insurance etc. Most places pay at least 75% of gross for tractor only.

Why does everyone say that 70% is not enough? You dont even know what the rate or operation is. I used to work for an outfit that paid 62% with their trailer n I did great!

Exactly, percentages don't mean squat if you don't know what rates a company is pulling for.

So very true and without knowing what the OP gets paid its like 75% of NOTHING is :( but 60 % of a LOT is :)
