A member of this board has asked me for help with PTA. I know how I do it, but I don't feel qualified this early on in my experience to be able to give good, sound advice.
I know that it is critical to keep the planners informed about your availability, but just how do you do it? I think the Macro 10 is the most important macro when it comes to staying lined up for new plans/dispatches but PTA is also an element of Macros 2 and 6.
I also think that there are a lot of drivers who sit waiting to be dispatched because they don't take the time to send in a Mac 10. How can you expect to get planned for a load if the planners don't know when you will be available?
Projected Time Available (PTA): How do you handle it?

i usually do the 50 miles to an hr (unless im super light and on flat ground)plus one for fuel/coffee...figure in the 10hr break, if your doing a rolling reset things get a little trickier but not much

Sometimes I've put the PTA (MAC 10)out from the delivery time plus 10 hours and have gotten back error messages from doing that. It's just gotten to the point where I will just put the ETA an hour before appointment time and PTA an hour after and call it good. Later I can enter a more accurate PTA with the Empty Call.

Go to work for a small company and throw your macros away?

I guess I would estimate my unload time based on my appointment time. Of course with grocery chains that could mean 6+ hours ahead. It's probably better to add time for delays and then you can always update it and let dispatch know if you'll be available sooner. Best thing to do is to call dispatch as soon as you have a pretty good idea of when you'll be ready. Call instead of q.c. because sometimes the qc message can be delayed as well. When you call them it's in real time not 10 minutes or more..... and sometimes less. So the sooner they know the better for you.

eta = distance/50 + (10.5 * daysused) + daysused
distance = road miles of trip
daysused = distance/500
pta = (eta + 2 hours) if (L3 - 11 < 3) else (eta +12)
L3 = Time spent on line 3 of log of current duty cycle
Amountoftimewastedthinkingupthisformula = way to much
Now you know why I don't drink much...
Yes I am a geek, but this is how I guesstimate my PTA and eta at the beginning of a long trip.
Note is not always accurate. -
Guess I'm not sure what your asking for. I have to turn in hrs used each day so my company knows the hrs that are available and I'm usually preplanned according to that. Trying to figure out how long its going to take someone to unload you is just an excersice in futility. lol
