Getting everything finished up, and have a question about insurance.

Quotes have been running 8K or so.....except for Progressive. They are at $3600. Why are they so much lower? Are they disliked by some brokers, or are they a legitimate option?

As always, thanks for the feedback!

Progressive only sells insurance plans for short haul, they do not cover otr work. You deff want to speak with a local agent and get all the info.

SHC - You hit it right on the head.

They limit coverage to a 500 mile radius. No need to pursue them any further.

    Thanks for pointing that out!

Though she is a hottie, Progressive and GEICO are both ripoffs. They suck customers in with all the millions they spend on advertisement. Guess who pays for that?

I have known a couple guys that have made claims with Progressive and no issues. But both lost coverage with them on renew. They have exceptions on radius and my agent said they will audit your ITP or IFTA filling if you are in an accident outside the radius. There is some debat on if they are required to cover you if it is found you have exceeded the exception. Majority opinion is that unless the laws of the state say they have to be proactive in monitoring then they can deny the claim.

It falls under submitting a false application if you know you will be running outside the range.

They have a couple states that have no limits. But the premiums are much higher.

Acyually, they are getting into long haul NOW. They aren't writing for every state, but they are for Colorado. The initial quote I got online was for the 500 mile radius.

From what I found in talking to my personal insurance agent, Progressive is a really good company that pays fast on claims, and is known for not getting into the crappy games that many insurance companies like to play.

I ended up signing with them today after an insurance broker told me that they were going 48 states. Here's what I ended up with:

    1M Liability
    1M Uninsured/Underinsured
    100K Cargo
    5K Medical
Downtime/Rental truck at $175/day - and THEY help you get the truck.

    Total pice $6589/yr

They have several payment options, and offer some really good discounts if you are willing to belly up to the bar.

$5630 if you pay 12 month in full

$2870 if you pay for 6 months

    That's over a $900 discount!

I went ahead with the 6 month pay.....comes out to $5740/yr that way.

They told me they are slowly expanding into the various states based upon how many claims they have had to pay in any given state. Might be worth a call if you are shopping.

    SHC and BigJohn54 Thank this.
