Good Morning everyone! I am a nationally certified licensed massage therapist here in the Omaha area. I have recently graduated with my Associate of Science in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and just left a 25 year carrier as a dispatcher/broker in the transportation industry. I took a job at a high end spa in Lincoln and after only 1 month have found that I really miss talking to and workin g with all of you drivers out there...so my thoughts have led me to consider opening a massage center in one of the truck stops here. I know what you all endure bouncing in that seat for 10 hours a day, dollying down trailers and lumping your loads. I am educated on all muscle groups affected by the type of work you do and I feel I could offer a great service to help you overcome aches, pains and injuries while on the road. What do you all think of my idea to start up a massage center within a truck stop? I appreciaate all input, the pros and cons. I wish for you all to have a great day out there today! Shine on!!!

    Best Regards,

    Carla

I want to say give it a try if you can do so without any major, long-term lease commitments. Drivers as a whole don't do much or spend much money to "pamper" themselves. I enjoy a good massage as much as anyone else, but as a driver, I know that if I feel especially tense and get a good massage, I'll be tense again within several hours of getting back on the road. I won't get into some of the more personal aspects and pitfalls that many drivers may "bring to the table" ... if you're familiar with OTR drivers generally speaking, then you may be aware of what I'm eluding to regarding at least a few of them.

But most drivers are pretty "tight" with their money. I might be inclined to recommend a lesser-priced sit-down massage and hope for more volume. Good luck regardless.

Your going to go broke, There are reason lots are full of reptiles. Most do not want legit massuses. But good luck. You'll be back to tell us truckdrivers are all slobs and all want happy endings.

Thank you for your input STexan. I do have a massage chair as well as a table and would offer either option. And, I do realize that drivers hang on to their dollars especially in this day of low low rates and high fuel costs...I have always been about the driver, pro-driver, if you will...and would fashion my charges to be conducive to a drivers budget. I want to help you guys, not hinder you. And yes, I know that there would at times be the infamous few that would ask for or hope for more then what my intent is, however, it would be my hope that once drivers experience my techniques and level of professionalism they will know that I am both respectful of them as hard working human beings, and I am respectable as a hard working human being. When I brokered I was respected by drivers all over the country for being fair and good to them...I always felt that we were on the same team...I still feel that way and would hope for the respect to be mutual. :) thanks again for your honesty. Be safe out there and hae a great day!
