    It's not hard.

Drive into front gate with the other trucks. Be nice.

Then follow the elephants nose and tail to the company scale. Get empty weight.

Come out looking for the material you want. Big shovel or bucket man will curse at you until you are in the right spot. Remember that spot always.

THUMP Full. Back to company scale you go.

    OUT. Your boss is waiting.

I prefer to think this way. Loader loads he loads just like he loaded a 1000 trucks before you.

You hop onto company scale, get gross weight, then ask nicely with a box of doughnuts boughten that morning to take a minute to axle out writing down your axles. A little math develops maybe a overweight problem.

Now let the scale man know you intend to dump a little dallop back in the pile you got it from. IF he is any good he knows whats about to happen and will let the bucket man know.

Go back to company scale and reweigh. Hopefully you work out well.

IF you are happy, take off.

I had a boss load me down with stupid heavy loads of fly ash here in Redfield for West Little Rock. That poor truck of mine could hardly get it out onto the I-530 interstate beyond 124000 Back I go to pump off some.

Ive tried to learn where to stop that loading man at a certain pile height below manhole. But he has to go on and on about fishing. And I lose track of the stuff. =)

When you pull in tell them you're not sure what you're doing, they'll tell you what to do and the leader usually asks how much you want where. It takes a bit to figure out how to have it loaded so your weights are right, or at least close enough.

Most of them do, they're not horribly accurate but close enough. I like the places where they load you right on the scale, doesn't leave a whole lot of room for screwing up then.

    ?

Let's see a CAT 936 wheeled front end loader 6 and change yard bucket, fill it with stone. The best estimate it takes 5 of those to fill my old dump to 20 ton. (Overflowing buckets that is.)

If you want a custom weight back to the scales you go. And dump a dallop until you got it.

The wheeled loaders like the one I ran had nothing in them excepting a fuel gauge and a engine counter. Everything else was up here **Taps own skull

Hope you know how to run a loader. Many places are doing away with the operator, the driver loads themselves. I did, anyway. Remember, if there is a loader operator, they ALWAYS have the right of way. Piss off a loader operator, they can make your life pretty rough. Dump trucking can be the most frustrating job, you never get 2 weights the same. And the loads don't pay much to bother getting legal everytime, so it's load and go, and hope the DOT isn't watching. It's why you never see a dump truck going over a state scale, willingly, that is.
