I posted this (I think) and it got moved into some huge thread and lost in the water...so I will try again :biggrin_2557:

I am in the process of purchasing a used T600/W900 to restore and fix up as a show/hobby truck. I have my DOT but do not need/carry an MC.
I am only looking to run this truck for pleasure after fixing it up.

Does anyone out there know of an insurance company that might specialize in this situation?
I have called several places. Many wont talk to me since I am not leased onto a carrier. I tried 'classic/antique' type of companies but unless the rig is older than 1984 - they can't help.

I am buying the truck with cash and only need $750k liability.
OOIDA via Progressive came in at $2800/yr and they have some weird travel radius limit.

I have had my CDL since 1989 and have a perfect record and just need a company that understands the type of purpose I am using the truck for. The 5th wheel would be covered.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I found a company (OOIDA actually recommended) out in Long Island.
They are an Insurance Broker but I was able to secure coverage that didnt cause me to loose consciousness.

    :biggrin_25523:

$1347/yr for $750k liab and $100/300 UM/UIM (required by WI).

I didn't ask for PD at this point, but might add it later on. There is a $100 prepay discount as well.

I'm still looking around locally, but I figure once I have 1yr of insurance behind me that I might have more options with different insurance companies.

It sounds like you should be able to get bobtail insurance or unladen insurance. Those are insurances that you would likely need if leased to a carrier. In your case, you wont be leased to anyone but you should still be able to purchase the bobtail or unladen insurance. Progressive offers both with no radius restriction.

    Elliott,
I just looked into this. I can get NTL for $444/year ($750k liab only) and actually when adding comp/coll - my premum is around $1k/yr.

Progressive came though, but only with help from rigquote.com.

    Thanks!

Give Gulfway a call. That's what all the guys in ATHS use. I was going to buy a 1988 Pete for the same use as you're looking to do and they knew exactly what I wanted without having to go beyond describing it along with offering a very reasonable rate compared to what you've been looking at.

Look up Gulfway Ins. on google for more info or even talk with the ATHS boys for more info. Most seem satisfied. Unfortunately someone bought the truck I wanted that had been sitting for a few months the day before I drove down. #### the luck after all the research I did to bring it home.

    Hanadarko Thanks this.

Hey..thats alright! ...I am going out of town this week but will check with them when I get back. However, Progressive is only $444/yr for $750k liab for my purpose and not sure it could get much cheaper, but it's always worth a phone call....

I'd say either a little cheaper or the same price at the most. They're very reasonable and specialize with nothing but hobby vehicles basically. If you dont call, I'd say you've got a decent price. I'll have to keep Progressive in mind for when I find the truck I'm looking for!

The thing I liked about Progressive was that I can ramp up coverage if I need a trailer or if my business needs change.....I'm not sure if Gulfway can offer that sort of flexibility or not. I still want to call, just to see the quoted price.

Progressive did not offer me these rates without invoking a 3way call with a broker. Once more details were explained to Progressive, then and only then did the price plummet. I don't blame Progressive for that. My situation is unique and out of the 'norm'...

You had inquired about insurance for a 1994 KW T600. We are sorry but we won't be able to offer a quote in the insurance program we represent.

    Thank you.
