Well - there's a lot of us who do well on the lease side, but starting company is always a good plan. You can see how things work, then make a decision.

On the company side you accrew 1 home time day per week out - they want you out 3 weeks between hometime requests, and you can use up to 4 days during each spell at home. You also get 5 paid vacation days (you can use them all at once) every 125,000 dispatched miles. Also, company policy is to get everyone home for one of the three major winter holidays - I've been home for 2 of the 3 every year. They bobtailed me at company expense (and I got paid for those miles) from North Platte NE to Denver one year to make sure I got home on Thanksgiving. I've never had a problem getting home - my requests were always honored.

You've quoted this 5 day vacation deal a couple of times. I don't know about you, but I've taken 7 days each time I've got a vacation.

Also, my Company Driver benefit sheet says "1 week paid vacation $500"

Also note vacation mile counter starts at upgrade to A seat. PSD and Trainee miles don't count.

Officially its 5 days, or it was when I was getting them. Remember - you work for D-man who treats his drivers very well. If you want 7 you'll get it because of your status with him.

Roadhammer, I can tell you as the spouse of a Prime company driver the pay is not bad. He is sending home as much as $1400 a week, a bad week (not one where he is coming off of home time but low miles) is $750 to $800 a week. Benefits are high the first year, but after the first year they cut the cost in half, I want to say about $75 a week for health, dental is about $4 or $5 a week (family rates). Life Ins is costing us $0.84 a week for about $100 grand.

We are happy, have a good FM, get good miles, get home time when we ask for it (every 6 weeks), and an occasional pass by the house.

There are plenty of happy Prime drivers out there - most of us don't post here because of the very negative atmosphere that is allowed to exist on this forum.

Company solo's can expect 2500 - 2800 miles per week on the average - with gusts of over 3000 depending on the season. Company drivers are eligable for a fuel savings bonus paid weekly - if your good at it you can tack 1 to 3 cpm on top of your regular rate. Per diem is optional, with no kickback for the privilege of taking it. I was bringing home $800 to $1000 per week on a regular basis.

Health insurance is BCBS, reasonable dental coverage. Hometime is one day accrued per week - they want you to run 3 weeks between stops at home, 4 days used at a stretch - although you can work that out to 5 or 6 with only 4 charged once you know the system well enough to work it. Never had a problem getting home when I wanted to, and on time. They get everyone home for one of the major holidays, although when I was running on the company side, I was usually home for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

ok my post on prime is sorta inbetween so im puttin it here...in short...i was lease operater for success leasing the lease part of prime owner is Rob Lowe and i know him personally i drove for 3 yrs all 48 and southern canada...just so you know i am real heres the deal...good points...control..you can run where you want but you will have to be assertive with dispatch , but if you just run the system you will make 1100 a week about...if your not...fire your dispatch (yes you can do that) in a nut shell the payment per week is double everyone else and there isnt a purchase option its a straight lease and you cant go home alot unless you live on a major route say like the I-40 corridor(example) other than that its the best i have worked so far but they jack you on the lease and expenses...that simple...but like i said expect $1000+ a week in truck expense and 900-1200 a week in pay as long as you dont breakdown or something...work the business and definately know your monthly report well if you dont LEARN IT!....would i go back...probably not because i know there are little better deals out there ...but i prolly wont get an indoor theatre at the terminal lol....also sorry bout not saying this but this is actually only the lease side i never drove company for them my advise NEw driver?...go company awile 2-3 months....Some experience...GO for the gusto lease a truck...Notice LEASE A USED TRUCK WITH LESS THAN A YEAR LEFT FIRST AFTER FIRST LEASE IS COMPLETE YOU CAN LEASE A BRAND NEW ONE ANY COLOR YOU WANT...LENGTH OF FIRST LEASE DOESNT MATTER...JUST COMPLETE IT...IT COULD BE ONLY 4 MONTHS...

There is a buyout option in the lease now - if one thinks they're interested, they should ask about it early on. There are some limitations that can snag you if you're unwary about that.
