Has anyone heard of a President McKinley CB radio? On Amazon they are the highest rated radio, but I've never heard of them.

Yes my buddy has one and loves it. Has a scan feature where it will scan all 40 channels so you never miss anything. He runs a 102” whip and has about 300 watt kicker to help him rise above the clutter

The McKinley is what the 980SSB should have been. It's a fantastic radio and will likely be my next 'new radio' purchase whenever that happens.

CB Radio Magazine has a great review on the President McKinley radio.

CBRadioMagazine.com - President Grant II AM/FM/SSB CB Radio Overview

The only negative for me would be the RF gain control since you have to
do a couple extra steps to use it. I use my RF Gain more than my squelch. Although that wouldn't be a reason enough for me not to buy one someday. I really like the looks of the radio too. It has a very nice SWR feature too.

Well I parted with 198 President Washingtons to get a President Mckinley but it was well worth it. Have used the radio for 3 days now and really like it. As expected receive is great and with speaker tone on -5 level and NB/ANL and High cut on white noise and hiss is minimal, as for the speaker tone adjustment it is a nice feature and even though the radio has front facing speaker it may work fine in a four wheeler install but I still prefer a good external speaker in a big truck. The swr check is easy and dead on accurate with external swr meter ( Radio Shack) . As Nightstalker mentioned a couple steps to adjust RF gain but you dont need to key mic like you have to when adjusting mic gain and rf power, just press f/ mem button twice and turn channel selector knob to desired level then long hold on channel selector knob to validate, can be done while driving and 2 clicks counter clockwise will elinimate any hiss. Stock carrier on low power is 3/4 watts and 3.8 watts on high and pep is 14 watts and credible radio checks report audio is loud and clear, however Im not really impressed with stock mic but the radio is 6 pin and the Bearcat 980 stock mic does work and sounds really good and the Bearcat 6 pin to 4 pin adapter also can be used and both Roadking 56 and Palomar SL 41 sounded good. The only negative for me is from the 3 colors to choose from ( green, orange, blue) none of them are bright enough to see well enough in the daytime, some of that may also be that the radio is up to my right in Kenwort cb tray, but never had trouble with 980 or 29lx, but generally really nothing to look at while driving but just habit to glance periodically. Overall real nice radio definitely a keeper probably last purchase for a while.

    Ougigoug Thanks this.
