Hi guys,
Before Pepsi sold off there restaurants which were KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut (Loooooved Pizza Hut in the 1990's ate there a lot as a kid best place ever!) The 1990's were so magical in a way kids today don't even know LOL!
Any how Pizza Hut was owned, by Pepsi from 1977 till 1997 when Pepsi decided to get out of the restaurant business. Then obviously Yum brands took over and McLane became the purveyor to Pizza Hut and the rest of them.
Anyhow here is a really cool picture I found on the internet I'll post the link to Pepsi Food Service back in the day. Turns out Pepsi Food Service ran a turn pike doubles operation in Florida back in the 1990's. Any of you guys on this board worked for Pepsi Food Service or know anything about there Florida piker operation?

Pizza Hut I know kind of around the late early 2000s after Pepsi sold them off kind of went through a decline a lot of there free standing places went under and then they went to more take out and delivery places. Anyone know what that was all about?
Pre-McLane Era (Before McLane there was Pepsi Food Service Co.)

Hey Mike, thanks for the history lesson there. I remember when Pizza Hut was a good place to get pizza. I wondered what had happened to them, all I knew was they went from a place I liked to eat, to a place you couldn't drag me into...
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
@Big Don you got that right Pizza Hut isn't what it used to be, here let's all go back in time and gaze into Pizza Hut's former glory back when they were all free standing and the roofs were red. I think that the Carney brothers eventually had a falling out with Pepsi Co or Yum I know the one Carney became a big franchiser of Papa John's. I guess they didn't approve of the job Pepsi Co was doing, said the quality was not what they served at there Pizza shop in Kansas in the late 1950s.
Ahh 1980s stuff was just way higher quality back then.

Took my daughter to a Pizza Hut in Ridgecrest California back in the mid ninetys. We are waiting for our pizza, and I'm seated looking at the salad bar. This young girl was in the process of refilling some dressing there, and happened to knock the serving spoon to the floor. She picked the spoon up, wiped it off on her apron, and stuck it back into the now refilled dressing container.....
rabbiporkchop, bottomdumpin and Mike2633 Thank this. -
We had turnpike doubles when I worked for Hostess Brands/IBC. I was on a waiting list for that. Who wouldn't be when the minimum base pay was over $3k a week back then.
They had strict regulations on them. You needed some kind of special endorsement to pull those. You weren't allowed off the turnpike, or at least that's how it was in the NE. They had drop yards that you had to exit to and seperate the twin 48's before you exited. They have those drop yards all over the NY thruway. Dolly Madison hauled twins as well. So does Frito Lay.
Here's a link on some of our doubles.....

The one in North Royalton, Ohio (Gone now) the service was so bad (Pizza Hut in Cleveland there were several that had atrocious service) the one in North Royalton, Ohio the service was so bad someone called the health inspector LOL! I think though most of them started going down the toilet after Pepsi sold them off. That was in my opinion though PFS's strongest and best brand I've never eatten at Taco Bell and the Green Beans at KFC are very salty.
Back in the 1990's there was a Pizza Hut in every city up here in Cleveland a free standing eat in place with waitresses and buffet and salad bar and the all famous NOW HIRING sign out front. Back in the 1990s Pizza Hut couldn't keep help the chain was booming and they were constantly hiring. Ahh good times. -
Sho Nuff Thanks this.

I don't know guys I think back in the day when Pizza Hut and Pepsi Food Service were both in there infancy Pizza Hut was good quality. They were the gold standard and leader of the pizza industry right up until they were sold off in the late 1990's. Now "corporate pizza" especially in Ohio is pretty much laughed at and used as a last resort we have a lot of independents that have pretty much dominated and have ran circles around the Papa John's, Domino's and Little Ceasars of the world.
