I'm trying to get into the trucking industry and started off pretty bad. First, I only have a CDL Learners Permit. I applied to SWIFT and started at the academy in Memphis. The first day was of course the DOT physical and drug screen. I quit smoking a month and a half before I went to SWIFT believing I was clean and good to go. I tested positive for THC. Whoops! I was told that I have to go through the SAP process to be considered. $550.00 to start. If I never even sat behind the wheel of a truck before or have a CDL Class A license, how can they take something away that I've never even received yet? It was a Pre-Hire drug screen which I did not pass. How does this effect me for future endeavors with other trucking companies. Do I really have to go through a SAP program before I drive a truck? Anyone know what my options are?

I don't know your options...
I'd be more concerned if something like that would go on your DAC, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in... -
you MUST attend that SAP program at your cost i believe. you will find it hard from this day on to gain employment since you pulled a positive.
and they can take away anything they want, you screwed up, not them......
i do hope you learned a lesson, stay off the shiot....... -
Maybe it's bad for me to say this but, you should of went to a smoke shop and bought a synthetic urine kit for $30 bucks, hey i aint gonna lie when i was younger and had stress coming from family and my old lady i would smoke a lil Mary Jane. I used the kit a few times in the past for pre hires i KNEW i wouldnt pass due to smoking. Basically you get a kit that comes with the synthetic urine, a small heat pack that last 10 hours and directions, before the test you wrap it below your sack with the heat pad on it, then when they send you into the bathroom you drop your pants take out the bottle a squirt it into the cup. The heat pad keeps it around 100 degrees which is what they are looking for, YOU PASS EVERYTIME

I'm sure swift has reported you and by regulation, you have to complete a SAP program.

Thanks for the advice. I have quit the shiot but I still have one concern. How can I complete the SAP return to duty process, when I'm not working for a trucking company? Do I simply go through the process while unemployed? It just seems very unproductive and a waste of time for the individuals making sure the process is being met under the regulations DOT set forth. So.... I complete the SAP process, will this erase my mark on DAC? If not, what's the point? I kept hearing that there are over 300,000 truck drivers needed and the number is going up every year. With this kind of demand, I would think that trucking companies would be a little more lenient towards truck drivers or individuals trying to get into the industry.

Go too Gary , Ind and i can gurantee you at that old k-mart parking lot there, there is at lest 50-89 trucks parked in there every night i go by , smoking know what all and the lot lizard's running rampant, i wacth em take off while waiting at the light and you can tell there so high , just by the way they drive, if you see anyboby shift ten times in block and you can count the puffs of smoke every time they shift, although not very good thery , but close enuff, but yes the ins are telling them the drivers must be clean or they be a risk factor involved, do you want a truckdriver high on know what all, right on your bumper cause his load late and hes ridding your asset then pass you on double yellow line going up a hill, ya thats what there looking for, so get clean up , spend the 500 or so, practice practice and by that i mean , put a ad on craiglist , asking dosnt hurt ether, but mayby someboby will hire too drive dump truck, then as baby steps up the ladder, no trucker started at the top of ladder, we all took our baby steps , or start from the bottom of ladder, so ask around get a job ,start driving a dump truck for 3 years, show your a hard worker and a clean worker, if you can't quit smoking , then spend anthor 567 or so too get into rehab if you want too do this, then in same company ,mayby with luck and clean after 3 years get your cdl class b , this will get you in a tractor and side dump, mayby, side of the company, and keep practing, this may or may not work , you can only try , sorry for long post, but thats only way i can explain myself

then proceed to step #2................ -
Sounds like another wannabe driver that watches too many old movies about driving thinking that is what the industry is like.
In Canada, you have to sign off on paperwork that allows the company to get your old drug screening test results. You can say no, and they can say "hit the road". Also with a formal record of usage it will most likely be more difficult for you to get a FAST or TWIC card and cross the border in either direction. The FBI/DHS and RCMP will suspect that as you have a record of using then you are at risk of trying to smuggle drugs across.
Likely not what you want to hear, but, you messed up, you have to pay the piper.
