I'm trying to get my dump truck (glorified pickup) running again as I'm running out of work with the big truck. I had put a brand new starter and starter solenoid (the one on the fire wall, not the starter) and it still isn't sending power to the starter, just making a click. Also, there is a small black wire that when I have it on the hot side of the solenoid it burns up, but only arcs like hell when its on the cold side of the solenoid. Very confusing. Any help that you guys can give me is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Power to solenoid, but not to starter. 1995 F-700/ 12v Cummins

If its burning up in must be going straight to a ground, is the wire from the solenoid on your firewall definitely going to the right terminal on your starter solenoid? Or is it hooked up to the ground?

The wire burning up is a ground. Its going to its own terminal that's just a peg with a screw through it.

do you have a picture of the solenoid ? as it sounds like you have a short after the firewall solenoid also i have seen this in the past when the solenoid went bad

I wonder if maybe you put a power cable on a ground by mistake at the starter.
