I recently took my truck into an MHC Kenworth for some repairs, power steering issues among them. It kept locking up on me while doing a hard back to the point where I had to sit and wait a while before finishing the back. It had never run out of fluid despite fluid obviously leaking out of the cap all the time. So I brought it to the KW and they tood me there was a PSA out for this model, a 2015 KW T680, that said the reservoir for the power steering pump was in a bad location and needed to be moved. So i paid for that to get done bevause apparently that causes the fluid to get too hot. Less than a week later, driving through Des Moines, NM on US-87 the pump started whining. The wind was blowing hard and i had been fighting it for a couple hours. So I stopped at a rest area and discovered the reservoir to be nearly empty and what was left appeared to be boiling. Fluid was all over the top of the reservoir and dripping. I'm now thinking that the pump has gone to #### and is boiling the fluid out of the reservoir. Would anyone agree with that? Time to replace the pump?

Pump was likely damaged from first problem. Needs a new pump, but this issues of over heating and fluid loss may still be there and further troubleshooting needed. Could have a blockage somewhere making it constantly work and over heat. Should have a power steering analyser put on it to test flows and pressures.

Check your lines, and if you have a power steering cooler, look at that too. Seems a bit premature to lose a pump like that, mine lasted a good 10 years on my ISX. Also check the power steering filter, it should be in the reservoir, maybe they botched that up at MHC. The last place on the planet I would take a truck.

Ok. I'm having some fluid brought out to me, a gallons worth and I'm going to see if i can get this load to Colorado Springs about 160 miles from me tomorrow. If it can make it I'm going to deliver and then go to the dealer and get an estimate. Just spend $5k on a new DPF and reservoir relocation so I'm not looking forward to it

I haven't had any bad experience with the ones I've brought it to. I should have had the pump tested when i had the reservoir moved but in my broke ### position i didn't even want to know.

Any fluid that you can see outside on the frame or steering box?

ISX. Everything is tight, top of the reservoir was drenched and when i pulled the cap off it was holding fluid up by the lip and some more started dripping down so i think it's coming out of the top. I'm going to check for leaks after that fluid gets here and see if i can it worked up enough to show me whats going on

Fluid is puking out of the top eh? Is it to late to have them bring you a new power steering filter along with the fluid?

Steering box is completely dry all around, pump is dry all around. Fluid is just dripping down from the reservoir and sprayed back onto the frame behind the reservoir. All hoses and clamps are tight and dry.
