Good afternoon everyone.
I recently purchased my first truck, and currently I am saving for a new flat bed.
In the interim, I have seen many loads that are "Power Only". Do these loads pay well?
What are the pros/cons to the "power-only" loads. Thanks to everyone in advance who has some advice for a newbie.

Most power only loads do pay well. Just remember when you get to other end you are without a trailer. You can get into a lot of older trailer, oversize, trailers made for single axle truck, and much more. It can be a lot of fun and also a lot of hassle. Get all the info on rate confirmation. A lot of loads are empty trailers and you can usually load them also. Remember when you are pulling somebody else's trailer at 2 in the morning and you blow a tire or worse, you are pretty much dead in the water until morning to see if they want a used tire, recap, or new one. Defiantely ask for a minimum rate of round trip, there is never a guarantee of another on the other end.

Thank you, instead of sitting around I will surely get out there.
When you say ask for a minimum rate of round-trip, do you mean double my price going one way, or do you mean make sure he has a load coming home? -
Mark,
I did power only with a major carrier for the first sixty days of my company and authority opening and is was okay. Gave me the time I needed to get some more experience to under the authority and a way to purchase my first trailer. I would recommend if it is a short term solution.

is it common to get stuck out there without a return load?

Why don't you just lease onto a power only outfit it sure beats working for a living !!

I get a few power only loads, biggest thing is the wild card of what you're getting in a trailer and the distinct possibility that you will have nothing waiting for you at the other end. If you can set your dominoes up right though, there is good money to be made.

What are the pros/cons to leasing? Is it more advantageous than being a straight up owner/operator?
