I filled up at a FJ in Texas yesterday and after about 100 miles I got a water in fuel warning (2018 new cascadia).
I pulled over and drained the fuel filter a few times. The warning cleared and about 200 miles I get the warning again. I drained the fuel filter again, but I'm thinking the diesel from the flying j had water in the tanks.
Will any of the fuel additives help clear this up? Both my tanks are almost full. Someone said Power service Diesel Kleen would help but they said the white bottle, but seems the white bottle is anti gel and the silver bottle is the diesel kleen.
Anyone have suggestions on which additive?
Possible water in fuel.

White bottles says removes water

What is the globe looking like? Are you seeing a substantial amount of water in it? Because it's possible that your WIF sensor might be on edge. What's the engine and what style fuel/water separator are you using, and how many microns is the element rated for?
Canadianhauler21 and crocky Thank this. -

The 1st time I only had to drain it twice (just a bit at a time so I don't have to prime it)
The second time it took 4 or 5 times draining to get the warning to go away.
Engine is dd15 with 70k milesLepton1 Thanks this. -

If you truly are dealing with a new water situation in your fuel and not a bad sensor, you need to consider the possibility of sabotage [with your truck] and also let the applicable truck stops know so they can check their tanks and system.
Flying J doesn't generally allow their systems and fuel sources to allow this to happen but anything is possible in isolated incidents. -
The issue though, is the night before last I over nighted at a reciever with locked gates. I was at half tanks at that point, I left there after unloading and went to the Flying J on 20 on the South side of Dallas but didnt fuel there. I just grabbed a shower and waited for another driver whos load I was repowering.
After getting the load I left Dallas fueled south of Dallas at a Flying J on 35 in Wichita. I was still around half tanks the refer was at 3/4. I filled the truck with as much as I could squeeze in same with the refer.
I ran around 100 miles or so with no other stops before I got the dash warning of water in the fuel. I stopped soon as the message popped up at the 1st exit and drained the filter.
I then ran to Laredo around 200 miles and about 15 miles from my drop I get the message again. This time the truck starts to get some sputtering like issues as I couldnt just stop where I was.
I finally got stopped drained it again, this time took a lot more draining to get the warning to go away. I was also getting a check engine light at that time. After draining that time the message cleared and Ive driven about 30 miles with no warning but Im still getting what is like a misfire kinda hesitation that happened a few times randomly.
The refer had no issues after refueling but Im assuming at Flying Js the refer fuel is separate because it has dye.Last edited: May 18, 2018

I called the FJ and they say they havent had any other reports, but who knows. I did drive about 20 miles, still no water in fuel warning but Im still getting the engine stutter seems like while trying to get up to speed but not while at speed.
As far as running this fuel out.. Do you guys think I should stop often and mix in new fuel or should I run the tanks down before adding fuel?
I already had plans to have the truck in the shop Wed for other issues, but Im quite a ways away from our shop at the moment.
