EpsonWF100Open.jpg I purchased an Epson WF-100 a couple of months ago for the occasional on-board printing I do. I'm very pleased thus far with it's functionality and portability. I also purchased a hard carrying case that is made specifically for the printer, fits inside the case perfectly and stows away nicely.

I plug the unit directly into my laptop and bypass the Bluetooth option, however, the Bluetooth option is easy to set up. It has a built-in rechargeable battery as well.

The ink cartridges are obviously smaller, however, I have gotten at least 100 pages of printing so far with the black ink setting only for printing.

When the black ink cartridge started getting low, a pop up option showed on my laptop printing dialog screen asking if I wanted to use a combination of color with the black to extend the life of the black ink cartridge. That is a pretty cool feature.

I also ordered an Epson WorkForce DS-30 portable scanner this morning from their website. $49 bucks for a refurbished unit that included free shipping. The hard case for it was $11.99 through Amazon Prime. The reason I ordered the scanner is because when I have several receipts or docs to scan, using the Camscanner app on my phone is a bit tedious. We'll see how the scanner performs for my limited use. In any case, $49 isn't going to break the bank. EPSON1.jpg EpsonCase.JPG EpsonScanner.jpg

The last pic is the portable scanner.

Forgot to add that I paid $183 for the printer at Staples. They had one on the shelf for $299, however, I showed the manager an Amazon Prime price of $183 and he matched it immediately.

I'll add one more thing, if you happen to purchase one of these units, make sure to disable the Bluetooth function on the printer itself if you're printing directly (via the driver) from your laptop connectivity.

Does the new boxed printer ship with a small capacity "demo cartridge" as most do? If so, what size cartridge are available to purchase at a Staples or Office Depot? "Jumbo size" or a standard size only?

I'm maybe looking for a compact printer to print b/w pay stub detail sheets (about 3 pages, every other week) so I can reconcile to them.

Does it require AC power and can it be powered through the USB/computer connection?

EDIT: looks like only only size is available in either of the cartridges
Epson WorkForce WF-100 Mobile Printer | Inkjet | Printers | For Work | Epson US

And it looks like it will operate without AC power as long as it is fully charged. I like wireless printing (AirPrint for Mac) when it works well

Mine came with a full sized(for this printer) which is small. I have been happy with it. I didn't know it had BT, but, it prints effortlessly using the WiFi option for me from the PC/tablet/phone. Worth the money for me.

Did you know that most smart phones these days can scan and save documents in PDF format? I understand it's nice to have the special hardware. With the limited space we have in our trucks, less is more.

Of course I understand that, I've been using the camscanner app on my android phone for a long time.

My whole business which consist of thousands of dollars of revenue transactions per month is condensed digitally onto the cloud, sorted and filed neatly into electronic files, created and maintained by me using my cell phone and occasionally my laptop.

What I said originally was I purchased the printer for those occasions when I have to physically print documents. I use a digital logging software program that is web based, but is not connected to the ECM, any inspecting officer could require me to print off paper copies if he so chose to do so.

As to taking up space, the printer in it's case is no bigger than a small box a cereal. And what trucker do you know that can't make room for an additional box of raisin bran? ;-)

We get our "pay stubs" emailed to us. It's just much easier to reconcile the pay details to my written notes when I have a printed copy in my hand instead of having to make mental check marks and highlights on a screen

I typically just buy what ever the cheapest $20 - $30 printer there is. Usually last 6 - 8 months before the ink runs out or dries up. Cheaper to throw it away and buy a new one than to replace the ink cartridges.

I have mixed feelings on this. While it saves a few dollars, it's wasteful. One can really point fingers at the manufacturer for engineering printers to fail faster and over charging for ink refills.
