We'll it finally happened. Saw my first portable scale today in Illinois. 110 ckc south of Macomb. Of course I didn't scale this load because I wasn't planning on hitting any scales. Load was 44k on the bills, preloaded and sealed. I just slid the tandems up to number 9 hole and rolled. I was definitely white knuckling the steering wheel, but thankfully got the thumbs up and kept on rolling. Whew, close one.

    Any other close calls today?

They are gonna be out the next few weeks from what I hear.
maybe has to do with all these trucks getting in accidents , people getting shot and , truck fires .

Oh and the fact that they love to use their pens to write tickets. Lol

Drove from Minneapolis down 35 thru Des Moines today. Passed 4 scales every one of them closed. I I'd however notice a LOT of Iowa Motor Carrier Enforcement officers trying to be sneaky and hide out on the onramps and a couple on overpasses too. Notice I said "trying". Change of tactics for them I guess.

I wouldn't worry about it, between you and me theses scales can be very off (adds too much), they sit in the back of a suburban all day, and some cops just throw them on the ground when they take them out to weigh you. The only true accurate representation are CAT scales or the chicken coops at the borders.

1 year and you're already discarding your due diligence, and are perfectly aware of it.

Can't wait til you start a "why don't they treat us like professionals" thread.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like anything to worry about.

I would be fascinated to read how you think you learned that.

Hi icsheeple, years ago, Wis. and Ill. were notorious for portables. Again, CB radio saved my butt many times. I think I've only been over a set of portables like once in my entire career, and that was in a rest area on old 51(before I-39) in ILL. S of Rockford. I heard of drivers getting up on the scale, and mashing the brake. I 'm also told, the troopers didn't like that.
