Tow Truck dude built a wrap around tent for the botton of my truck out of cheap tarps.when i jelled up in Faribault Mn and it worked.
That salmander he had was a life saver 50/50 fuel and it still jelled.
Should of ran straight #1 and a quart of ATF in each tank.D.Tibbitt, cke, RedForeman and 4 others Thank this. -

Something like this isn’t as large of BTU’s as I am looking for and is propane, but it is self contained and could work for my specific needs.
RedForeman Thanks this. -
Im not going to say it was amazing, but i recently got a chinesium self contained diesel fired heater that definitely kept my sneakered toes toasty in a lightly drizzling 30 degrees, runs on 12v
It was the right price at 150$
(Pic not uploading, will try again soon)
Amazon link is specifically what i bought

I agree with the other guys about figuring out some kind of a tarp or a way to enclose yourself.
Probably 20 years ago I had a truck and I broke down and I called my dad and he came out. It was pouring down rain and I had to get the truck fixed right away. It couldn't stay where it was.
Pop brought a big tarp and 2x4s and whatever else and we made a tent and had light and we were nice and dry and worked on it and that was that.
I also agree if you had a salamander heater of any size it would be hard to handle. There's no way I could lift mine up in and out of the truck if it had fuel in it.
As far as 1800 watts, I think the other person said, I have a 4,000 Watt inverter in my truck that will run that.
But you have to have the truck running. He works for me in my tractor because I can run my fridge and my microwave and whatever.
But by the time you spend four or $500 to buy a good inverter and you buy all the cables and you take the time to wire everything into your truck I think it's just much simpler to either get a very small generator or get the 3500 Watt Harbor Freight generator for a thousand bucks, plunk it in the truck, and when you're ready fire it up plug it in and you're done.
And if you ever have a power outage or you have any other kind of problems you have the generator.Banker Thanks this. -

The tarp is a great plan when working for an extended period and I occasionally use one in the rain. What I am wanting now is something quick and self contained for reasonably short jobs on dry, extremely cold days that usually take couple hours or less. Something I can keep locked in the bed of my pickup along with my tools. I may try the battery powered one just for the simplicity even though the BTU’s aren’t near as high as the plug in units. Thanks for the input.
