Got caught too many winters where truck wouldn't start and needed a jump.
Last time road call guy said he used 24 volt jump to my truck.
I got one of these portable battery jumpers.
Can select between 12 or 24 volt.
What do you suggest?
Also where would be the best hook up spot on a Freightliner Cascadia.
Thank you

Lucky he didn't fry everything on your truck. Very dumb to try and boost a 12 volt system with 24 volts.
-
Unless you're jumping cat machinery.
12v is all you need.
Now I don't know if all cat is 24 but one skid steer at that time was.
And that's a supposedly as I just heard that it had to be jumped. -
Road call guy said he does it all the time on semi trucks, "gives it an extra boost". -
12V works no problemConcorde Thanks this. -
It's not about voltage that the power comes from, that must remain equal on both ends, it's about the sustained amperage available.
Would you plug a 110v drill into a 220v outlet to get more power?blairandgretchen, Siinman and AModelCat Thank this. -
ECU’s are cheap, give er.

But don't use 24V mode on a 12V system. That's probably a good way to fry your computer.
I have a NOCO battery jumper for my car. Those lithium-ion batteries are wonderful.
Hook it up, and start it up. Just that quick. No waiting 15 minutes with a truck hooked up with jumper cables.tscottme Thanks this. -
Siinman Thanks this.

If you have jumper terminals on the frame rail, that's where you hook up. If not, just hook the red to the terminal with the large red sheathed cable coming off towards the truck and the black to the opposing terminal with a black sheathed cable leading toward the truck.
I bought this one recently: 1700 Peak Amp Portable Jump Starter and Power Pack with 250 PSI Air Compressor It was $10 cheaper when I bought it, and I had a 25% off no restrictions on one item coupon, so the total was only $142.49 + tax. If you get one of those coupons, this is a great item on which to use it. It will definitely jump the APU immediately, and should be able to fire up the big engine as long as its not *too* cold outside.
