Has anyone ever installed a portable air conditioning unit inside there TTT running from a generator?
If so how was it installed? And have you had any issues with it staying running?

Thank you, But how exactly was it hooked up? It keeps shutting off after running for one minute not cooling anything down..

How big of a generator do I need in order to run an 8000 Btu A/C? I currently have a 1500 watt one now....

    LMAO....

    I do. I have a portable 8,000btu being powered by Ryobi 2300/1800 watt gen-inverter.

It cools the cab enough to complete a 600mile run, but the best part is the sleeper. It drops to 65degrees on my 10hr. That's enough for me to rest/hit the road.

I have multiple major a/c leaks, so I said screw it. $850 dollars later, plus jerry-rigging the a/c, my friends are already whining about what their a/c systems cost every year.

The a/c is overloading (tripping) the generator.

My generator does that at times, when it (the generator) gets too hot. Luckily, I bought the bluetooth model, so I just reset it from my phone.

Go old school and put a swamp cooler on that thing... Just take it easy when cornering or the water will slosh in to the cab and it usually ends up giving you a good shower in the process... Lol

If your sleeping watch out for the gas fumes. Diesel won't kill you because it has so much air in the exhaust gas vs a gas generator.

I did it for years with an 8000 btu stand up A/C single hose and Honda 2200 'suitcase' generator. All but the very hottest days it worked great. I have an APU these days though, I would go the generator route again though if I had to. I see at Sapps they have the 2300 watt little generators for cheap, certainly cheaper than the Honda. The Honda was only good for 1600 watts which was barely enough to run the A/C but it was a workhorse beast that never shirked its duty. I carried a 2.2 gallon gas can and most truck stops have a gas and diesel pump. Walked my dog with me over to the gas pumps and fill it and walk back, no one questioned it. I stored the little generator on the floor in front of the passenger seat. Pro-tip, never top off the gas before putting inside the truck lol. Just shut it down and then put it away, fewer gas fumes.

If I did it today, I would mount the generator outside permanently. Couldn't do it on my last truck due to the short frame and skirts that I did not want to take off. Not enough room to secure it to catwalk either while driving, trailer would have hit it on turns.
