Pitt Ohio Express is the best company I have ever worked for. I work as a line haul driver, I run between 550-620 miles a night. I am home everyday and I do not work weekends. At this point my pay, top rate, is .4820 cpm + $9.50 for each drop and hook. 3 D&H's per night, + the mileage pay figures out to nearly .54 cpm. We are paid for every mile we run too, no HHG miles, no post office to post office crap, if we have to detour and it is more miles than our run miles, we get paid for that too. Company pays full medical benefits for me and my family, profit sharing, and provides uniforms. Our hourly pay is now $20.96/hour (top rate), for dock work if you get stuck on a run that requires it, it is also paid for breakdowns, traffic stoppages, the second you set the brakes, you are on the clock, fueling the truck, etc. I had 3 weeks off last year, worked no weekends and still grossed over $77,000, I have enough senoirity to run 600+miles a night. Average linehaul driver runs 8-12 hours a night. We have electronic logs, and they will put you in a motel or come and get you and the truck if you run out of hours. Doesn't happen very often.
The city operation pays the hourly rate + OT AFTER 3 years and typically work 10-12 hours a day.
We have 21 terminals in 8 states. Right now we are not hiring out of the Toledo Terminal, or anyothers that I know of but keep an eye on the web site as that's where all openings are posted.

A note of caution if any lady drivers are reading this:
Swift got a deal a couple years ago (I don't know if it's still in place or not) to haul trailers for Pitt Ohio. It was offered to us drivers as a dedicated. I decided to try it. My first night working, I was in the Toledo terminal, and one of the office staff took me and three other Swifties downstairs to show us procedures. As I walked down the stairs, I hear some ######### (without even bothering to lower his voice) say "I'd sure like to have that in the back of my truck." Then when I got to Columbus where I was delivering, another ######### says "where did that come from?" and the other ########## around all start in hooting and whistling.
I went back OTR. I get harrassed out on the road, too, but at least it's not right under the nose of the company and being ignored. -
That is sad. No female should be forced to put up with such comments.
I will admit, that if I see a nice looking female, I will appreciate the sight and might think comments that will not be voiced. It is not nice to make anyone uncomfortable.1nonly Thanks this. -
I'm sorry to hear that you were treated that way at my home terminal or any other Pitt terminal, that's just not right. Did you bring that to a supervisor's attention? They supposedly take that kind of crap seriously and have a zero tolerance policy towards it, so I'm told.
We did have a deal 2 winters ago with Swift but it only lasted 6-8 months. I know it P.O'd. alot of our drivers because we were getting shorted on our own runs but there is no excuse for that behavior.1nonly Thanks this. -
my wife been in hospitals, rehab, 8 months,
not you -
Thank you for the info on Pitt Ohio. We are looking at something where hubby could be home everynight. How much experience is needed to work for them? Also how good is their insurance and is there a waiting period for pre existing? He has started with Werner and the recuiter told us that insurance would start in 30 days. That was great and it does but the pre-existing is 12 month waiting period. If it is that way we may have to tough it out on the insurance no matter where we go. Still it would be great to be home almost every night. Thanks

BufordTJustice007 Thanks this.

BTW, I'm not 100% sure but I believe it's the insurance company and not the employer who determines the pre-existing limitation. -
Sorry for the rant. My point is I got sick of being laid off and having nothing to show for my dedication. So, I got my hazmat, doubles/triples, and tanker, paid for out of my own pocket. Probably will get passenger too just for fun!
It is great to see that Pitt-Ohio is such a good company! I have applied with Con Way, Central Transport, and FedEx National LTL. So far, Pitt-Ohio has no openings, but I am now licensed to apply! That is my goal; to get on with a place like Pitt-Ohio or Central....
Your post gives me even more reassurance that what I did was the right move and hopefully someone will hire me pretty soon.
