What do you use for pipe stakes? Did you buy them or make them? If you bought them, where? How many do you carry? And last where do you secure and store them when you're not using them. Thanks for the help.

I made mine. Length of channel iron with a piece of round stock welded to it so they don't slide clear through.

I have 6 of them. I lay mine in the bottom of a tool box and cover them with a rug so they don't rub a hole in my tarps.

i made mine out of square tubing. put 4 and a half inch on the trailer outside the rub rails and have 4 inch stakes to slide in them, covered with plastic corrugated tubing.

pipe steaks are they the same as tube steaks, called hot dogs or weiners?

but seriously , do just as old mj described. they work great of put in a stake pocket upside down, orput em across the front of trailer in the pockets.

I bought mine from a place in Odessa, TX for $100. They are 4' tall when in the pockets, and 2 are rectangular tubing and the other 2 are channel tubing. They are like that so u can run hook a chain to the channel, run it around the square and hook the binder to the other lip on the channel. I carry mine inside my enclosed headache rack. Most flatbed guys I see carry them in a box or flipped over and thru the pockets on the trailer.

Where in Odessa TX if you can remember? Do you find that you ever need more than 4 or is that pretty much standard?

I only ever needed the 4 and that seems to be the standard. Only time I can see you needing more would be if you hauled say 2 sets of 20' pipe, but for most everything u will only need the 4.

The place is just south of the Loves in Odessa, turn right on Birchfield St. and it runs right into their yard. I can't remember the name of the place tho but here's a pic

If you can't do what botoler did and weld large square tubing to the rails and large tubing stakes then make you own by welding two pieces 1 1/2'' square tubing together to fit in your existing pockets. This is much stronger than 3 1/2'' channel iron.

    botoler Thanks this.
