Have an opportunity (pretty lucrative)hauling pipe dedicated, my question concerns "pipe racks/pins" that fit into the side pockets of the trailer 4 ft high aprox 4 of them, Does anyone know where I can get them? either fabricated , or used? I am in western pa eastern Ohio area Thanks in advance.Dave.

Is that how Lone Star does it?
Because that's not how it's done.7122894003481 Thanks this. -
As for the stakes you can make them your self. I bout #### when a driver in Huston told me he gave $125.00 for four at a trailer stealership. I have less then 40 bucks in mine, that I dont use anymore. -
Are you pulling your own trailer? If so invest in the permanent bunks that alot of pipe haulers have. Just sticking a pipe in a stake pocket really isnt the right way to go about it.

For square pockets make them out of channel steel. Weld a stopper on them to the point of stopping them from falling thru.
I would always use 6 of them, 3 each side just in case one bent or got lost etc. -
To save your trailer, always chain the pipe stakes together, it can save the side and rubrail on your trailer

I use 4 made out of channel with a stopper welded to them and treated 2x4 bolted to the inside of them to make them "insulated" so they dont rub against the pipe (when shippers call for it) and then chain them together and tighten with binder. I have seen tons of dedicated trucks in Texas that has a removable stake system (no chain/binder needed) and fits into a steel (on their aluminum trailer) bracket that is permantley mounted to their trailer. I think it would be wise to do some internet checking in that area or just go to a machine shop like I did for mine.

I agree with Mr. Dave. We are not hauling pipe but poles. I just got finished building 16 bunks for our trailers and will be building some more to finish us out. I used 4x4X1/4" square tubing. They are 8' or 8'6" wide and 6' tall. Cut 45 degree angles but cut all pieces as if they are laying the same way. Do not make one cut and try to get two pieces. If you keep them all oriented the same...as if angle up...or angle down....the little vee that gets cut out is your gusset. We got 40' sticks but you could make them smaller for your liking. Like Mr. Dave said....we do not use our rub rails for stops. We bind them down. Our aluminum trailers just won't last using stops unless they are bolted to the side of the trailer. If they have any slack at all they will tear your rub rails up on aluminum. We also built them this way so the drivers would have an easier time laying them over. We backhaul hay alot and saving the drivers a little time and strain helps out. They simply take the bunk loose...lay it down...and rebind it. Then they are ready to load hay. Just some thoughts. We run about 16 flatbeds with varying loads....but normally poles. Let me know if you want to see pics of the bunks I built and how I cut them out...we had zero waste this way.
