Thanks for the information. I had been kinda wondering what is going on since I though it was to have been March 1, 2010 that the Flying J was supposed to go away and the Pilot was to have appeared with the Country Market Restuarants being replaced by Denny's or a national fast food chain.
I will miss the buffet at the Country Market, though. Some of it was bad, of course; but some of it was very good.
Pilots plans for Flying J restaurants

Huh?
I thought that Flying J was going to go away in the United States and it would be all "Pee-lots" ...
Let me check their website. Thanks for the information. -

Ya Know? All this is kind'a funny...Because, The last Flying J manager I talked to recently said that the merger was most likely not gonna be finalized and that only some of the Flying J's were gonna get turned into Dennys (Some of the worst, most bland food in the industry).
Even when the Pilot/Flying J merger was thought to be a sure thing, The intention was for the Flying J's to remain Flying J's much the same as Petro stayed Petro after they were bought out by T/A...The only thing that really changed at the Petros is that they used to be spotlessly clean and now that T/A owns them they are filthy pig stys just like most T/A's.
Some of the Flying J locations have fairly decent food and some (even though it's the same menu) are horrible!
Dennys is consistently bad wherever you go so at least you won't be surprised by how bad the food is when you get there!
I hardly eat any of the crap that they serve in truckstops anymore because I just like better food than you can get at most truckstops!
Besides....I'm a flatbedder, I will be in the back row at the truckstop grillin' a couple of steaks and tossin' me a nice fresh salad as we have done for years (A true flatbedder tradition!)ky wildcat 4ever, rotax74 and HFC Thank this. -
I work at the Flying J in Fargo North Dakota. The general manager here has been filling us in on what is going to happen. The merger will take place. We are already having to convert to Pilot's way of doing all of the book keeping and all other paper work. Today I saw a letter from the Flying J cooperative office stating that the restaurant here will be taken over by Denny's this October. About the only thing we will get to keep is the name Flying J.
BIG RIGGER and HFC Thank this. -
Well then...Maybe someone will finally fix the ###### card readers, computers, fuel pumps and all the other stuff that's falling apart at the Flyin' Hooks...But I doubt it.
I'll avoid the Dennys like a virus so that'll be one more reason to not go to the hook!
Besides poor customer service and ridiculous prices.HFC Thanks this. -
HFC Thanks this.

...but other than that, it's great. -
What about current Country Market employees being able to stay on with their same jobs when Denny's comes into Flying J's?
Most Flying J wait staff, I have dealt with are honest, hard working and seem to be interested in their work. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule or observation.
Yes, Petros did use to be spotless but now that the family owned company in El Paso, TX got brought out by the corporate company in the suburbs of Cleveland, OH; things have changed for the worse. -
I work at Country Market in Checotah, Oklahoma. And we just found out today that in three days we go to MENU orders only. They just had to fire 3 people cause they have too many employees and not enough sales. And now most of the buffet workers will not have a job either. They told us that we were closing the last day in Dec. to start remodeling for Denny's but it looks like we are going to be closing before then. Not enough business. When all the Denny's talk was starting a few months ago we were told that the Country Market employees wouldn't have to worry about their jobs. But we all knew that was a BIG LIE!!! Its a bunch of ##### if you ask me. They have done there employees really bad. Escpecially the ones who have been there for years.
CommDriver Thanks this.
