Can this be a good job for someone who has no prior experience hauling hazmat or tanker? The ad says $90k yearly, but is this accurate? What is it like hauling fuel, particularly for this company? There are job openings in the Valdosta and Cordwood Georgia areas. Should I apply? I’m currently earning around $50-60k at my current job.
Also it’s local, which I prefer (home every night).

Yes, apply for the job. Don't believe you should have prior tanker experience because it's dangerous, because that's not true.
Those companies would not hire you if you are a detriment to the operation.Albertaflatbed Thanks this. -
Cordwood, Ga?
Could you possibly be referring to Cordele, Ga.....maybe?
Never heard of a Cordwood, Ga....
Anyway....yes, the suggested pay is indeed pretty accurate. Pilot/Flying J is the "real deal".
It's one of the better private fuel fleets to on-board with, for sure.
The "dark side" of this job -- you may well start off working nights, weekends, and also (especially) on holidays.
Your "weekend" will likely (instead) be tues/wed, or wed/thurs.
Also: because this is one of the more attractive gigs for fuel -- you may well encounter stiff competition from other drivers who have previous fuel experience (along with the safety records to back that up).
You'll find the job to indeed be easier/better than hauling fuel for a 3rd-party carrier -- IF you can get it.

They have a job posting around here probably every other month. Gotta be a reason for that.

They - pilot/ flying j - always have a ongoing recruiting operation ad going on , its a third party recruiter who collects your info and sends it to TN to there area fuel managers , if - a big if - is weather they have opening and if they are actually hiring for a particular area.
Here in ABQ they have about 8-10 trucks and 16-20 drivers , slip seat of course , and very low turn over.
They pay real good if you a full day and a full five days ( they are paid hourly , and last i heard it was around 30 -35 , but my friend had been there 5 years already).
Good gig , but lots and lots apply and few get in.
